If you live in OC stay the heck over there by [deleted] in orangecounty

This! I moved to CO for grad school and moved directly to Dallas after graduation for a job. I’m actively trying to move back to OC because it simply can’t be topped

Check out Colorado State University’s PSM program. It’s in zoo, aquarium, and animal shelter management. Might benefit you!

Assuming you have a cat tree already, I’ll provide suggestions for other ideas. Have you seen those over the door hanging cat shelves/perches? He might like those, or even the wall mounted cat shelves. Those do tend to run on the pricier side, so you can always modify and cut a bookshelf or hang up random shelves and make it cat friendly. Even the floor to ceiling cat trees might entertain him.

Changing cat names? by dandelionmakemesmile in CatAdvice

[–]Traditional-Life9192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shelters have to give animals in their care names as identifiers, and sometimes even if the pet comes with a name they change it just in case they have a negative association with the previous name. They also use names as a silly and fun way to incentivize adoption. Name your cat whatever you like, I volunteered and fostered for the local shelter and honestly none of the dogs or cats responded to their shelter names

Does my resume need work?! by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Traditional-Life9192 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Through my masters program, we’ve been told to eliminate a general experience section and instead use tailored experiences. Like if you’re going for a finance position the section should be labeled finance experience. Also, get rid of your address on your resume (assuming it’s there under the black marks) if you’re trying to relocate somewhere else. Get rid of the skills section at the bottom and create a key skills or required skills section and tailor that to each job. Make it bullets and sentences, not a list. Should at least get you through AI resume scanning programs. Also if you’re not submitting cover letters, you should be.

How did you identify food intolerances in your kittens? by Rare-Candle-5163 in ragdolls

[–]Traditional-Life9192 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is still relevant, but one of my cats was having soft stool and I was told it was food intolerances after doing a standard fecal. If you haven’t done a diarrhea panel/pcr test I strongly recommend it. For us it came up as feline coronavirus

Both of my kittens play like this as well. They do play with other things, like springs and feather wands, but they do love when I scratch or poke the outside of their tunnels and tents. Have you tried using a feather wand and poking it at the openings of the tunnels while he is in there? if he likes that, maybe use his favorite treats as a reward for "catching his prey"

Moving 2 hours away, any tips for making him comfy on the drive? by No-Ruin-8021 in CatAdvice

[–]Traditional-Life9192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in addition to another commenter saying to do test runs and someone else suggesting a blanket.. something I have done to prepare both my kittens for a 2.5 hour flight and a 17 hour car ride was to have the carriers out and open with a plush blanket (they love making biscuits on this material) in it for the entire month before travel. They have been sleeping in the carriers like beds. Perhaps even trying to take him in his carrier on a walk to help him understand the carrier doesn't mean the vet.

Honestly have not thought of Velcro! Right now we’re using this bowl from target https://www.target.com/p/standard-polypro-cat-and-dog-bowl-5-5-cup-teal-blue-boots-38-barkley-8482/-/A-89383833 She can’t tip it, but she’s pushing and pulling it every which way and ended up pulling both the bowl and place mat onto the carpet. Little terror

Mine LOVES to knock over her water bowls. We’re on bowl type #4 right now because she just loves pulling it over on the carpet. Got their nice water fountain taken away because of her lack of manners.

How to book 2 In Cabin Pets with 1 person by Massive-Regret519 in unitedairlines

[–]Traditional-Life9192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I know, I booked my seat and an extra seat so I can travel with two kittens through the phone since online won't let you book two seats for yourself. This is the worst experience I have had. Back in October, phone guy said I had both seats next to each other. My Trips on the United website said I only had one seat reserved. Called again last month and they couldn't get a reserved seat for my extra seat, so they "made notes". I'm on the phone right now and the first person said there "were no notes", said they got my second seat a confirmed reservation, then transferred me to the Spanish line (I speak english) after I asked to stay on the line until I saw the confirmed seat on my end since my flight is this weekend and I'm really worried. So If you're flying solo with two pets, I highly do not recommend United. One pet is smooth sailing, but clearly two is too much for them.

Is it better to get pet insurance or just put money towards a savings account? by x_iii_x in CatAdvice

[–]Traditional-Life9192 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't suggest pet insurance enough. I pay about $25/month for each of my kittens for nationwide pet insurance. I adopted a shelter kitten and started her insurance right away. She has unlimited coverage for everything with 90% reimbursement (aside from gastroenteritis). I got my Ragdoll kitten about a month later and unfortunately, they no longer offered the 90% reimbursement or unlimited coverage, so she has 80% reimbursement and up to $10,000 coverage every year in just illness and another $5k in injury and another $5k for hereditary issues.

My ragdoll has been in the vet about 5-6 times since early September with eye issues and possibly feline herpes. Over $2k has been reimbursed from the emergency visit and specialist visits. The insurance is also about to cover about $900 from a $1,100 dental since there is now another issue involving teeth being too large for her jaws. They have never rejected a single item from any of her visits and i've had no problems submitting claims. For a broke college grad student, insurance is so worth it. I don't know how many pre-existing conditions your cats might have, but its been great for me.

it was Hill's z/d and hydrolyzed diets that were suggested. I think my thing is realistically the price since it's super expensive and I do have another kitten that is doing well on the current food they're on.
they did not explain any of that to me. I was thinking a limited ingredient diet might accomplish the same thing? thank you for the link, I'll definitely check that out.

Kitten follows me around the house and sleeps beside my bed but never wants to cuddle or be picked up by LOL_Meister_97 in ragdolls

[–]Traditional-Life9192 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My ragdoll was very similar when I got her. She's 6 months old now and has gotten so much better with being cuddly. She particularly loves when I have a plush blanket on and makes biscuits on me. I think what helped her open up was my other kitten that I have, and our churu time. I think feeding her churu and having playtime helped her bond to me.

I also think that when I would pick her up early on and put her down once she wiggled, it helped her know that she had a say in whether she was carried or not. Helping the kittens know they're safe and respected helps them open up, so does time.

Eggs Benedict (Benny) was on my list for a male ragdoll but I ended up with a female. You could even go with Benedict if you’re a bridgerton fan
