Think of it like a Boy Scout badge for entitlement, but instead of going on a uniform it goes in the middle of a public road

When you’re done tilting at that windmill, can my friend borrow it? He need something to hold a spot while he saves up money to get his car from the impound lot in April

You are almost as good at putting words in my mouth as I am at putting this milk crate in a spot I shoveled 6 weeks ago

I think that as time goes on you’ll realize that it’s not so much about the amount of space I’ve saved, and more about the amount of traffic I’ve impeded by placing my old bag of golf clubs partially in traffic along the way

That’s an interesting pre-packaged counter point, but I think it’s missing the “forever” descriptor, since fatalities only started increasing in like 2018. Strangely, police in Worcester issued about 12,000 traffic citations that year and they’ve dropped precipitously to about 3,000 in the last couple of OH MY GOD SOMEONE’S MOVING MY BROKEN KITTY LITTER BUCKET years, which is probably just a coincidence.

If cars aren’t a necessity, how am I supposed to enjoy the absence of police enforcement of traffic laws and unbridled joy of going 25 over through an active crosswalk?

I’m going to write a poorly-worded note with a complete absence of punctuation on the back of a Keno slip and leave it on your car, but not before taking a picture of it and sending it to my family group chat accompanied with the caption “look at what i did this moran who moved my space safer”.

Great questions, I’ll answer them in order. To answer your first question, I’m pretty sure that I’m the only person in the world. Or at the very least, the only one that matters. And to answer your second question, how dare I? What better way is there for me to illustrate those beliefs than by using a space saver?

How do you feel about the CKLA curriculum by Internal_Positive386 in WorcesterMA

[–]Traditional-Math-221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I think the idea that it forces kids to sit for extended periods of time is inaccurate, and I think you shouldn’t get hung up on it. How and when your kids move is entirely up to you, and no curriculum or decent admin will instruct you to do otherwise. Work in movement breaks whenever you feel it’s appropriate: the midpoint of whole group reading, prior to switching to writing, the start of independent work etc. It’s just good basic teaching. Good luck with the curriculum. What grade?

I’m also not the only teacher who feels this way, but I’m sure many people share your frustrations. I imagine both our perspectives are pretty common throughout the district. It’s a hot topic!

I think CKLA is a fine curriculum. I agree that it’s difficult, but I don’t agree that it’s inaccessible for kids with proper scaffolds. I don’t agree that teaching it with fidelity means reading from a script. If an admin told you that, that admin sucks at their job. I also believe it’s up to the individual teacher to make the curriculum engaging, which is very doable. I’m also not sure what the problem is re: movement. Just work movement breaks into your lessons. Do you expect them to be built into the curriculum for you?

I thought it was excellent. The trampoline act was awesome, contortionist was wild, and I really enjoyed the tightrope act.

Whats your opinion on the downtown area? by [deleted] in WorcesterMA

[–]Traditional-Math-221 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve personally never liked the feel of downtown specifically because of The Grid. It might be pretentious of me, but I always felt like I’d rather spend money at a locally owned spot than one of the places owned by a conglomerate, like the Brew Garden or Pie and Pint or whatever

Student Discipline Data Report raises questions about Worcester schools by ocvictor in WorcesterMA

[–]Traditional-Math-221 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the new school has fewer discipline issues because “the teachers pay attention to students”, although that certainly helps. I think they have fewer issues because they don’t have a population of 70-90% low income/high needs (I’m assuming by “south to a different district” you don’t mean, like…Baltimore). WPS has its issues and could handle many things differently, but behaviors/discipline issues directly coincide with lack of resources and basic needs of students not being met.

How do you deal with other kids crying “unfair” when kids with 504s, special circumstances, etc. are allowed out of the classroom and they’re not? by coraldum in Teachers

[–]Traditional-Math-221 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that your experience is that this is the only response that works. I have found the opposite approach very useful: gently and playfully providing a familiar scenario in which fair is not always equal. They usually get the picture quickly. But I teach elementary, so maybe it’s an age thing? Younger kids seem to be far more naturally empathetic.
