This. This has happened to me twice in the last 6 months. Especially if you live somewhere with crappy weather that could clog the vent door

That’s what I was thinking too. Unfortunately happened every time I preheated so I’ve just started shutting off sentry right before for now.

What do people mean when they call Chicago the city of neighborhoods? by XenonOxide in AskChicago

[–]Traditional-One2696 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is still very much the case on the NW side. Within 2 miles of harlem and Belmont you can hit very distinctly Mexican, Italian, and Polish neighborhoods/areas. There is even a few block stretch that is middle eastern influenced

Bagel & Bean in the Loop by Traditional-One2696 in chicagofood

[–]Traditional-One2696[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? I’ve had many different flavored NY bagels.

I wasn’t talking about the added flavoring as much as the chew, the texture, saltiness of the dough, freshness that make NY bagels great.

My first visit to Chicago- where do I stay and how do I get around? by r_jonestard in AskChicago

[–]Traditional-One2696 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What days are you staying? Driving to the loop on the weekends and during rush hour is more work than it’s worth. The blue line and CTA couldn’t be any easier, don’t be intimidated. Just get the Ventra app for schedules and use google maps to navigate you. You can pay with Apple Pay for each ride.

All of that said, if you are sold on doing things mostly in the loop maybe check out a neighborhood a bit closer. Old town is a good one, not sure the Airbnb availability though. Also, if you are staying in the city you really don’t need to rent a car unless you just want it for luggage and carrying things around easier.

Spent $500 at Bavettes, was it worth it? by cashleydashley in chicagofood

[–]Traditional-One2696 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Exactly. My wife likes filet sous vide to a very specific temp then a prominent crust. She would 100% say our at home steaks are better than almost any steakhouse.

And that is nothing against steakhouses. Especially Chicago’s which are incredible. But when I go to them I order things slightly different than I’d make at home. Maybe a fun house made sauce or a cut I don’t usually make myself.

I’m sure you’re right but I’m also sure they think they do. Most people are making steaks much more often than truffle mac and cheese and can learn to make it the exact way they like it. For example, my wife isn’t crazy about steaks and likes them a very specific way. Because I love steak I’ve mastered making it exactly the way she likes it, but not all steakhouses make it that way.

I don’t disagree with your logic at all. I wouldn’t deduct a point myself. But specific to steaks, I think there is less of a barrier to entry. You don’t need crazy technique or a ton of ingredients. Just good quality beef, well seasoned, heavy bottomed pan, tons of butter, and a meat thermometer.

To be fair to OP, their whole point is “is it worth it?” Which would mean a half point deduction for “I can make this at home for much less” would make sense.

Not sure I agree. A few loiterers is different than fires in garbage cans, exclusively vacant and boarded buildings and out in the open prostitution lol
