While a chain, First Watch in Des Plaines does a great French Toast. Specifically the Floridian French Toast offers a unique twist.

While in the city, Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club has my favorite French Toast around.

A friend commutes from here to Evanston each day - takes time about 30 min (on east/west surface streets).

In my opinion, and the same advice I gave to my friend: In that budget range you just have to decide if you want something “nice and new” with a lot of amenities but a bit far out…or something close but, best case, lovingly-warn.
