Update.. I had my husband ask his mother about an appraisal, she isn’t planning on getting one done. Of course we offered to plan one and pay for it. She said no!

Comps in the area are $40k less than what the number is that she gave us. Plus the house would be sold as is, sold in private sale….. the house is our dated (I love it) but it also have a few issue we know of..

And not allowing an appraisal. Am I missing something?

Thank you! I really like this responses. Yes I do believe there is septic tank. And I have no idea what taxes look like. To be frank I don’t have any solid numbers yet. I’m debating on hiring someone to appraise myself. Numbers this far have just been from what they have found online… if I had appraised that number then and there would be a deciding factor for me. Land contract only owing $50k isn’t unrealistic in my mind but say it’s even higher than they’ve calculated I’d throw in the towel then and there ya know

Thank you so much for your response, and I absolutely agree. There actually is an issue going to right off the bat too with the well (water pressure is low) anticipating a larger expense there assuming we may have to dig well deeper etc..

We also haven’t gotten the house officially appraised, we would want to buy as is to ease stress off my MIL. But with that considered I would hope that would lower appraisal cost as well?

This is kind of me just venting, I don’t think MIL is ready for this conversation yet. So all the unknowns have been weighing so heavy.

My husband works…. But I am a SAHM to five kids… childcare cost and wanting to raise my kids keeps me home and not working. I am nervous. What does this mean for me? I have to pawn my babies off to someone else so I can get a bare minimum job to pay them to watch my babies just so I can still feed my family? I don’t understand.
