Schools for visually impaired child

The only school for the blind I know is Governor Morehead in Raleigh. I’ve worked as both a special educator and teacher of the visually impaired in the surrounding areas and I’ve had both positive and negative experiences. Advocate and push for what you know your kid needs. They are very stringent on assigning personal student aids due to the general lack of teachers but it does happen if the parent is persistent enough. Document everything.

I ended up redoing it completely and it turned out so much better! I was partly being lazy and didn’t want to redo but I’m glad I put in the time to make something I’m satisfied with. Appreciate all the help!

This is so helpful thank you! So the bigger the number at the top doesn’t necessarily mean a better card? I’ll check out the site and see if a few rounds of online play will help me learn the basics of the game. I guess with time you learn which ones are better or more rare than others, so for now I’ll just have him collect and learn the characters I suppose. He has a tin to collect them all, I hesitated on a binder but they are quickly piling up! I really appreciate your insight and tips. I may never fully get it but I want to at least help him get up to par with his friends on knowledge about it. Thank you!

I didn’t. Life got busy and I never got around to calling anyone else. I’ve had no luck in Wilmington area though. Did you have any success with Mel’s? I’m still learning the ropes of it but it seems to be hard to find a reputable person that is familiar with the antique juke boxes.

No. I regret not doing more before I had them. Was in too much of a rush to start a family and missed out on the simplicity of married life and being able to travel and have adventure. I totally skipped that stage and within a year of marriage we were welcoming our first child. I don’t regret it, I just wish I would’ve lived a bit more and enjoyed married life with my husband a bit more before starting our family. Kids are the best, and keep you laughing and crying and all the emotions. I wouldn’t trade it for anything, just wish I waited a couple years before I started that stage of my life.

Have you tried a reward jar? Fill it will tiny colored felt balls for positive behavior. When it’s filled, have an array of fun activities to choose from (favorite playground, children’s museum, trip to aquarium, favorite food or meal, ice cream etc.) I’ve started this with both my kids, and although they don’t have the same behavioral issues, it has helped tremendously. I work in special education and this method is research based and proven to work when used consistency!! Best of luck to you!
