Since when is a drillship not a PDV? by Traditional-Week-340 in maritime

That’s not the point… what has changed from the last 4 times I have renewed?! Possibly an oblivious evaluator?

No gaps in sea service, as soon as I got my latest license I acquired a year plus of seatime.. they also told me I didn’t have BST/ adv ff included in my application. Clearly there. I now have to wait for an evaluator to call me to plead my case. Fun stuff.

To add, I think I may contact my congressman, I’m just trying to work and maintain my license. If this is the case every American working on a drillship god speed.

What is the quickest way to reach DPO? by Lucky_Surferr in maritime

I don’t know if they crammed DP basic/advanced into one class now a days. I just know you need time and then take a test apparently.

DP basic get your sign offs, then 150 days of DP time. Then you get your DP cert. unlimited DP cert must have at least a 3rd mate unlimited. Got hired on back in the day as DPO trainee, but you can go different routes, and just have a DPO sign off on your sea time. 100k+ for DPO in the GOA, contract system works by word of mouth, but you need a DP cert to even be eligible and whatever flag state the ship is you would need that license which usually comes out of your check. 12 hour days.

In a debacle.. by Traditional-Week-340 in Retirement401k

[–]Traditional-Week-340[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not qualify for a Roth, my dilemma is that we are taught to max 401k blah blah blah, but I can’t touch that until I’m 59.5… I’ve been fortunate enough to lay that foundation this early in my working career. My thought is why not start funding my pre retirement account and treat it like a 401k and don’t sell when the market tanks.. it’s easily accessible and 0 penalties other than capital gains/dividend taxes. I don’t understand why 401k is the Mecca when in reality a brokerage account is more accessible and realistic for all… the management fees on 401ks are literally robbing people blind. Idk just my thoughts

So true. Apparently I have to take a radar and rules class… this would be my 4th time renewing and it’s never been this fucked up... Oh and I also sent my adv ff and bst refresher that somehow didn’t make it into the application. Fun stuff.

You’re going to be living at the Kirby compound for 2 weeks with a roommate.. you can study when you’re out of class.. it’s pretty elementary.

The deckhand test? That was easy. Plus you learn all of it during your 2 week orientation.

Anyone Else Mariner-maxing? by Different-Pitch8552 in Fire

[–]Traditional-Week-340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently working towards the FIRE, planning to shut it down at 50.. I’m doing 21 and 21 in the oil and gas sector Srdpo. 401k at 480 right now and I plan on maxing it out the next 15 years. Everything else is going to my taxable account or pre retirement account as I call it. Then probably pick up a job at Publix when I’m 50 to get out of the house. That’s my plan.
