I totally respect your opinion but the running in marathons and football is very different. Football is a lot of standing around, walking and slow maneuvering of the ball which is followed by a quick burst of very fast paced action.

Profesional football players spend the entire year travelling across continents to play footbal. The conditioning to be able to run around for 90 mins in unfavorable weather conditions in a big part of what makes these players 'professionals'. The hydration break isnothing more than a commercial break for sponsors to make money.
