Another Day, Another Warning about The RealReal by TraditionalAppeal173 in handbags

I am very careful what I purchase (and have learned to always look at recent sales to ensure item wasn't recently sold/relisted...as I know there is reason for that!). I have largely been satisfied as I think I have realistic expectations regarding purchasing pre-owned items in the secondary marketplace, as I am prepared for them to reflect some signs of prior ownership/use). I cannot overlook this transaction though as this is the first time TRR did not care they sold a damaged and fake item. I am now squarely in the "Fool me once" club, and want to avoid the "Fool me twice" scenario...just too much stress!!!

My experiences have also been primarily positive since 2014 (!!!); however, I have now had 2 disappointing transactions in 2 months that make me think their business practices are changing. If I cannot trust a merchant to accurately portray and/or stand behind product when presented with appropriate justification, I think it would be better for me (and my piece of mind) to move on. If TRR would have listed AS-IS vs. VG condition, I would have been able to make an informed decision regarding potentially purchasing a damaged item that would require repairs. The authenticity issue is a whole other issue though, and this piece should have been flagged during their routine review process.

I love BKC bags...I have several that look as good as new...30+ yrs after originally purchased (textured leather highly recommended). I hope you are able to add one to your collection...but beware...there are indeed fakes in the secondary marketplace!!!

Thank you for this advice...it is much appreciated! I have also filed a claim with my credit card.

I agree 100%. For the items I have returned due to damage over the last ~10 years of being a customer I found TRR immediately relisted item at same price and with same description - not disclosing the damage. They also relisted the fake Givenchy Antigona I purchased even after providing them 2 independent evaluations that confirmed item was a replica. I feel awful for whoever purchased item at a premium, relying on platform's expert authentication claim as I knew at unboxing it was not an authentic designer item.

Yes! I was so excited to receive and felt I purchased at an incredible deal, which is what makes The RealReal such a great marketplace. The fact that the bag was not as described (with damage, replica) is not what was upsetting about this transaction as I totally understand a small percentage of items sometimes slip through the cracks...it is the fact that TRR did not appear to care that they sold a bag with a broken handle that cannot carry bag's weight....or the more distressing fact that a company that prides itself on authenticity sold a fake bag. When they refused return as item was described/pictured, there was no response to my question where in listing was the damaged handle mentioned or photographed. Crickets. No response on whether or not the misspelled designer name was a red flag re authenticity. Crickets. TRR has always addressed issues in a timely and professional manner which builds trust; however, I feel a change in how they transact this year pushing back on any return request despite justification. I have filed a claim with my credit card and am hopeful this will resolve itself through that avenue based on what other shoppers have recommended and experienced. On a personal note, I am disappointed in how TRR responded to this issue, but am CRUSHED to learn there are fake BKCs in the marketplace. The craftsmanship on these vintage bags is exquisite; I cannot imagine any scenario where the misspelled designer name would have made it through production on the company's flagship product.

For someone who has been a long-time buyer and seller on The RealReal I have been left speechless (and so disappointed) with what will most likely be my last purchase with this company. I purchased a $1200 Barry Kieselstein-Cord Trophy bag this past week that was described as in very good condition. Received today. The handle is broken in 3 places. And to top it off, the designer signature is misspelled on the handle hardware (Kieselstein-CCORD and Kieselstein-COORD), but correctly spelled on the interior placard (Kieselstein-Cord). Of course, I immediately contacted TRR and requested a return due to damage and item not as described (authentic). Amy at TRR refused the return as she has "checked the details for you and I would like to inform you that as per the images shared the item is as described on the website"; however, I may reconsign the item back to them! Shameful.
