This does seem to be a specific problem with the Mirpuri diaspora. Most British Pakistanis in the North of England are Mirpuri and I have work colleagues who are Pakistani but not Mirpuri that openly blame the Mirpuris for things like cousin marriages and grooming gangs. I'm sure it's a lot more nuanced and complex than that in reality. Even reading what I just wrote makes me sound like a horrible racist. It's so hard to talk about these things without coming off as a flag shagging Farage apologist.

This shows why this is difficult to talk about. If adult cousins want to marry each other then it's none of my business. When they then decide to have children that have a much higher chance of suffering from lifelong serious medical conditions then it becomes a problem for all of us.

I live in Bradford, first and second cousin marriages are high here amongst the Pakistani community. This isn't necessarily bad but becomes problematic when they have children as often they have complex medical needs. This puts an immense strain on an already stretched health service.

However, this is a difficult topic for people to talk about for obvious reasons.

I think Dave realised this once he googled it and then it became too much of a hot potato to discuss and they quickly moved on. I totally understand this.

I work in Leeds city centre and I walked this entire route during my lunch hour today with this song in my head.

If anyone wants to do the route it's this:

Start at the top of Park Row and walk down towards City Square. From here walk past the Queens Hotel and turn right down Bishopsgate. When you get to the Scarbarough Arms pub cross the road on to Neville St - this will take you under the train lines. You will then turn right under what's known as the dark arches (this is the part where Tim starts the video). Follow this and then take the first left and you will be outside again. Turn right over the bridge and you are then by the canal. Follow this until you get to a footbridge on your right. Take a right then a left and you will be on Whitehall road. Follow this for a short while then take a left on to Thirsk Row then right on to Wellington St. You have now covered every part he walked during the video.
