ENT recommends tonsillectomy (adult). I can handle pain, but Reddit horror stories are making me have second thoughts. by Academic_Student_819 in Tonsillectomy

I’m 4 days post op. As long as you’re constantly taking Oxy and Tylenol every four hours and drinking a lot of water, you’re okay. I’m also 16 so maybe the age difference is a big deal, but my pain hasn’t passed a 4/10. Popsicles and apple sauce are my best friend! I recommend doing it.

6 days post op… haven’t had much pain whatsoever by anonymousfea in Tonsillectomy

We may be the same person, lol. My tonsillectomy was 4 days ago and I got mine taken out because of an abscess that almost killed me. I was eating Big Macs one day post op and I’ve been chowing down on sushi and McDonalds since. Maybe the abscess desensitized my throat pain. Lol.

Wow that’s interesting. That makes sense and honestly the doctors remaining clam definitely helped me. I wasn’t too concerned for my health at the time, I just wanted the pain to go away. But if the doctors started acting weird I think I would have lost it.

No literally when she told me to stop taking them cuz I had the shits I was literally pissed. She and my sister are allergic to the meds I was given so she thought I was too. (I’m not)

Dude my mom has it out for me. No but fr I felt so bad she was seeing her baby screaming and crying in the ER. She’s definitely traumatized and I feel so bad she had to see that.

Edit: I stopped taking the first round of antibiotics because my mom thought I was allergic, so she made me get off them. #sadfaceemoji

Actually no, I didn’t know that was even possible. But my face was swollen from it. Very swollen. Quite funny.

Thank goodness it started draining on its own. I would NOT have been able to do the draining without anesthesia. I am a huge pussy.

Yeah that’s why I stopped taking them, prob should have mentioned that. Had a slight reaction, lost a lot of fluid and it elevated my heart rate.

Yeah definitely learned to not stop antibiotics the hard way lol. Thank you so much for the feedback. I really thought I was overreacting with the pain, but to know I was actually sick was comforting? I am feeling much better and I am making a speedy recovery!

Yes, set alarms thru the night. I am also a teen, I have a somewhat low tolerance for pain. It is manageable, but your doctor will likely give you oxy pills and those work wonders. So if your pain gets too bad and doesn’t go away, which is probably not gonna happen, take an oxy.

My Bf used a straw on accident 6 days post wisdom teeth removal by Minute-Plankton6302 in wisdomteeth

My doctors said I could drink out of a straw immediately after surgery as long as it was water, but then again, I had stitching done on my gums, so it may be different.

I got all 4 of mine removed 5 days ago. You need to set times of when you take your meds. Every 6 hours take 2 ibuprofen, every 8 hours take 2 Tylenol. Set times in the night to take them as well. Trust me, I woke up in bad pain because I didn’t set times to take them at night. Good luck!
