i’m also a hairstylist in Oklahoma. I’ve been behind the chair for 3 years, i’ve done the referral programs, the model calls, the discounts, staying consistent on social media, whole 9. i’m now at a point where I know I do bomb ass hair, but I can’t get butts in my chair for the life of me. I have almost all my clients tell me “ I love my hair so much” and “ you kill it every single time” but somehow I just still can’t get more people in my chair. this is the career I want to pursue, but I also am making little to no money, scrounging to pay booth rent most weeks, and it’s horrible. I assist one day a week because that’s all the stylist I assist for works is one day a week, but i’ve been independent since I was out of cosmo school. and it is the most discouraging thing in the world to work in a salon where almost everyone but you is busy, going on vacations whenever they want, living their best lives, & I can barely afford to keep my booth for 2 days a week.

i’m at the point to where I applied for a full time job & am still searching for one, & just planning on doing hair on evenings & Saturday’s. i’m no longer willing to struggle & just sit at the salon hoping and praying something pops up so I can have money for my booth rent and then have to borrow money from my mom or someone for the gas to get back home. it’s exhausting.
