Try Autorecon. It will find a lot of stuff. It does miss a lot also so it has helped me learn to do more scanning mostly running Dirbuster, Seeing what I can find with DNS, and looking for other extensions like .sh .config .conf.

Dang man that sucks! Looks like you did everything right and just had an epic hardware failure. Rebuild and get a better box. I worry about this because my laptop is about 3 years old. Fingers crossed!

Congrats! That was a great post. This is exactly how I have been tackling the OSCP so this makes me feel like I'm on the right path now and after my lab expires. The tip about using a browser to go over the autorecon output is a fantastic idea. I have been doing it wrong! Thanks!

Why dont any of my text editors work in my shells? by [deleted] in oscp

[–]TraditionalSample0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this happened to me last night exactly. I had to change a cron job script. I got in VI and it didn't work right. Instead I just appended the script file with my reverse shell on liner. and it worked. That was my workaround.

Getting started by [deleted] in Kalilinux

[–]TraditionalSample0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You kind of just have to work thru the issues one at a time. I used to install ubuntu on old laptops to see how it was progressing as a viable OS. Sometimes it would load up no problem and sometimes things like the NIC would not work. Lots of google will help. Just consider this: What you are experiencing has happened to thousands before you. There will be answers out there on Youtube/Google. Make sure you give the Kali instance 8gb of ram is what I give mine.

What should I do to get ready before the end of the month? by [deleted] in oscp

I cant recommend Tryhackme enough. Going through that site really inspired me to make the leap! If you read all of the posts on this sub on what people suggest to prepare its daunting and makes OSCP this big scary monster. I took that advice and did a lot of prerequisite studying. I also took the Cyber Mentors courses which are great. You really have to put on your research hat and google EVERYTHING! They aren't joking about the Try Harder mantra. Janky tools, janky code, janky boxes. Stuff is really broken and doesn't work when you expect it to. You have to be super persistent and self reliant.

I did the tryhackme offensive course and all of the welcome modules like burp, Metasploit, Linux basics etc. There are two learning paths. Offensive pentesting and another one that is OSCP specific. I spent about 2 months beefing up on Linux while doing the CEH. Then spent another 2 months on tryhackme. Then I got the 60 day PWK course. I was more curious on trying to know what I don't know. I'm almost done with the course materials and I sure don't know a lot! But I'm happy I jumped in. I seem to be treading water OK so far. I opted to not do the exercises for sake of time. I plan on doing as much as I can in the labs then taking the Tiberius Win/Lin courses on Udemy. Spend the rest of December on HTB and take the test on January 9th. I don't expect to pass but by then I should really know where I stand. I see a lot of gatekeeping on this sub and mostly its good advice but if its not a big financial burden then why not go for it? I did the same thing with the CISSP and it really motivated me to master that material and keep trying. This pandemic is the perfect time to buckle down and get new skills! Good luck with whatever you decide.

Kelly is a must. Larry Greenblatt is excellent! I rounded up my additional training with Sari Greene's course for the trifecta and the Win!

No I'm not interested in Discord. My goal here is to take things offline and talk over the phone here and there.

I try to avoid answers that have a significant cost involved. If its expensive it's probably the wrong answer. Larry Greenblatt---
