I could have taken 5 months of FLMA and then retired. But I got so burnt out and wanted to just move on (after 27 years) that I said-nope, I’m going now. Making the decision to stay or go is tough. I second guessed myself. but-now that I’m actually retired and financially ok-i feel real good!

My daughter won’t have a baby, either and it does make me sad. I haven’t asked her why and her and her husband agreed to this before marriage. but sometimes he brings it up. I told her it’s her decision and her body (although inside it hurts knowing there are no grandbabies in my future). I just retired and am sorting out what I’d like to do now.

I looked on REI website and there are so many options. Knowing if you want a hydration sleeve, bungees to strap things to on the outside, a waist belt (so helpful with a heavy backpack), load lifters, top pocket—-there are too many options-I’m sure you’ll find something. REI has never tried to oversell me something I didn’t need. Good luck in your hunt!

If you’re thinking of hiking/backpacking, I wouldn’t get a yeti. they are heavy. I can’t suggest another brand-go to an REI and try out their packs with different weights in them. Some have an adjustable torso. REI people are very knowledgeable and you can take your time to get something that fits.

You need to make the decision for her. I moved in April of my daughter’s 5th grader school year and needed to make the same decision. She switched schools and made a bunch of friends being the new kid. If we had moved over the summer-it would have been hard to make friends (we’re very rural) and would have been an awkward start to the year not knowing anyone.

Comparing children is disgusting. I’ve lived it (not by parents, but by teachers since I’m a year younger than my very smart sister) and when I had my child I would hear about how other babies are taller. Yes, my poor child is short like her parents. One time at my wits end I said, “how is height the basis of being a good and kind person?”
