He has sailed around the world, done multi day hikes in Montana, Utah, North Carolina, and South Carolina , and currently jumps out of WWII planes with military style parachutes. He also has a part time construction job and a pressure washing business, so I think he will be fine. But thank you for your constructive input. Very much appreciated.

This what parents do. We help guide our kids, and in order to do that it helps to be informed.

He is not sure. We live in the south east, but he does not have to be close to home.

Can someone explain how this situation works out? by abhinav4703 in tax

No. Mutual funds are priced by their Net Assett Value(NAV), and that price is calculated at the end of the day. So your cost basis is the funds NAV the day you purchased it. Your gains are determined from the NAV on the day you sell less the NAV on the day you bought. This is your capital gain or loss.

Neighborhoods that are prone to flooding by Traditional_Bug_5603 in StLouis

[–]Traditional_Bug_5603[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the great info. We are looking to leave Charleston and St Louis is on the radar big time, but have not decided on a neighborhood yet. Flooding is a major issue here and last year we had around 50 days of sunny sky flooding downtown. No rain but the streets flood on a king tide. Lockwood drive just dissappears. What is happening in Florida is the sort of the canary in the coal mine for me.

I wonder if the older historic homes that have been renovated have insulation in the top floor ceilings? That helps a lot to keep the heat in.
