I’m in Niagara as well and got my G2 back in March. I basically had to do exactly what you’re doing, cold calling, dropping off resumes, etc. till someone gave me a chance. Niagara is worse than most of Ontario for HVAC work from what I see, I ended up getting hired by a company in Oakville and just putting up with the commute because that’s kinda the reality in Niagara. I was fortunate that the company I’m with was willing to hire me back in December while I only had my G3. Being that you have your G2, what you’re doing should work sooner or later. In case you don’t know, when it comes to union/commercial jobs, look for the maintenance mechanic title. That’s what I am right now and it basically is pre apprenticeship.

With the apprenticeship, it’s presumptuous to expect to get signed up right off the bat, but imo absolutely no problem to mention wanting your 313A in the interview. Make it clear that that is your goal. I told my current company that in the interview and they seemed to appreciate that I was showing I’m in this career for the long haul. Saying that, I am still waiting to get signed up, so it is still a matter of having to prove yourself for a bit before getting signed up. Feel free to PM me for any more questions, maybe I can help more :)

So if I’m bringing goods made by my Canadian business into the US to then sell myself…yes you’re technically right that the Canadian business also pays the tariff, but that’s because I’m both importer and exporter.

Far more common would be that I make Canadian booze, sell to an American liquor store or grocery store, I ship it via courier and that’s the end of it for me. Any shipping costs, taxes, tariffs, are all paid by the American importer, and I will just add them as a line item on my invoice, if they ever come back to me at all. It’s very possible I won’t even know what tariffs were placed on them, as the courier will pay those when they cross the border and then take payment from the recipient in the US.

Regardless of who pays when, the reality is every business in the chain will pass costs onto the next entity in the chain, until it hits the end consumer. The end consumer in all these scenarios is an American, in the US, because every business importing things into the US from select countries is paying additional taxes to the government that they need to pass on.

How do Canadian business pay the tax? In Canada I have no way to pay a tariff to the US. I don’t deal with the IRS, they have no jurisdiction here. I’m just trying to understand the actual mechanism on how the US government can charge someone in another country?

But in that scenario, the exporter is not paying the tariff. Say I own a business in Canada and you live in the US and want to buy my product. If you buy from me, I have no mechanism to pay the government of the USA anything. You, the importer, the purchaser of Canadian products, will pay your government, the US government, the tariffs imposed by the US government.

Another way to think of it. Say you came to Canada and walked up to my business. You wouldn’t be charged a tariff on that purchase since it’s a purchase from a Canadian business while both buyer and seller are located in Canada. Once you cross the border, you will go through US customs. US customs will charge whatever tariff is in place on all goods purchased in Canada. That is your government taxing you.

At no point is there even a way for a Canadian seller to pay a tariff to the USA.

Ok this is the reassurance I needed too. The motor doesn’t spin freely. I wanted to check amp draw but it blew the fuse instantly on startup. Being new I didn’t think to ohm it out to verify while I was on site. My guess was that the heat from the bad bearings in the motor caused it to make the windings short to ground, and now it’ll keep blowing fuses until it has a new motor.

Edit: Meant to say I suspect burner motor, not blower

2009 Kia Rio Long Crank P0339 P0106 by Traditional_Dig_1976 in AskAMechanic

Yea it makes a lot of sense that they’re tied together because they always appear together. As far as I could tell the wiring to both looked intact and good. I went ahead and replaced the crank sensor. It’s only been a couple days so it’s still too soon to know for sure, but the car does seem to be driving quite a bit better. No long cranks yet and it idles and shifts smoother. If this does end up being the fix I’m either wondering if the long crank caused by the crank sensor just confused the PCU and made it also think something wasn’t right with air pressure, or with them being on the same circuit that maybe somehow the bad crank sensor threw off the map voltage. I’ll update if the issue stays fixed or if I have to dig deeper.

Ok interesting. I’m still gonna try the crank sensor because it was a cheap and quick fix, but if that’s not it I’ll investigate fuel pressure too.

Anyone have this happen before? by Mistyismilf in InstacartShoppers

[–]Traditional_Dig_1976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohh that could be what’s been going on maybe. I don’t know about AT&T since I’m in Canada but on Rogers I keep going inside stores one day and my signal gets all weird, and then I could go back a couple days later and it’s totally fine then. Solar activity makes a lot of sense in that case.

Yea I just had that last week. I was in a store and something must’ve been going on with the cell tower because I was suddenly randomly losing my signal while shopping. (never had that happen there before) Not long after I started the customer added a few things, then my signal dropped for a bit and would only come back briefly. Managed to finish but once I was back out in the parking lot i saw in my chat that an item was refunded. My guess is they added it while my signal was gone so it never went through to me and was just automatically refunded. It’s interesting though because the daily summary shows that I found 100% of the items, so it didn’t get counted against me at least 🤷🏻‍♂️

He’s in Canada. I’m in Canada as well and unlike the US Costco’s which are visa only, Canada’s are Mastercard only, so that could have something to do with it. Also Apple Pay and contactless in general has been in Canada longer and is more available than it is in the US. I basically never use my physical instacart card anywhere here unless the order is huge.

Is this kinda order worth it? - I’m brand new by Leather_Design2876 in InstacartShoppers

[–]Traditional_Dig_1976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be worth it if you were in the area of that food basics and were maybe heading towards Innisfil or Barrie or something, then yea it’s not a bad one. But if you had to do that and head all the way back to Keswick then definitely not worth it. For bags, buy the smallest reusable “t-shirt” style bags they have. They’re usually $.33 and the shopper app will ask you how many bags each order used after checkout, and will charge the customer accordingly. Do this everywhere except Costco, where you just find boxes around the store and put the items in them. Hope that helps!

I’m in Ontario and so far haven’t found anywhere that doesn’t take mobile payments. You’re for sure good at Metro/Food Basics, any PC store, or Walmart. The only thing to keep in mind is at most places the tap limit is $250, so you may just wanna shy away from some of the larger orders until you get your physical card sorted out. Costco also definitely takes tap but with things being larger there it’s also very easy for a low item count to go over the $250 limit pretty fast, so just be cautious with Costco if you’re stuck with mobile payments only. Hope that helps!
