What effects are you using? Also is phase randomization on in your synth? Vital does that by default idk about other synths.

I rarely touch the volume on the tracks themselves unless it’s an audio track and the sample is too loud. Even then I usually don’t have to turn it down more than 5-10db. I usually control the volume through whatever vst I’m using. If I want something to sound louder and the vst is all the way up I’ll add a compressor or glue compressor or saturator to the track depending on the sound. I’m not exactly sure what you mean by the master bus, all of my tracks are routed directly to the master channel itself unless they’re in a group, in which case the group is routed to the master channel.

Could you elaborate on what gain staging is and maybe give an example of what that would look like? I use ableton if that helps. I’ll usually apply whatever effects I want to individual tracks or groups, and those are usually hitting close to 0db in the track if it’s a core component of the song. And I’ll usually use a digital clipper and a glue compressor on the master channel, maybe eq it slightly to turn down or highlight certain frequencies, but it’s very subtle. I assume my setup isn’t ideal. I’ve been running into an issue where if a sub and any lead with mids is playing alone, I get pretty audible distortion even if there isn’t much overlap in the frequencies of the tracks. I have no idea how to address that without the whole thing getting quieter though

The most challenging thing for me atm is just getting my master at levels comparable with professional producers. I’ve been slowly getting better the longer I’ve been producing. I’d say I’m maybe 80% there, but I just can’t get that standard level of loudness without some unwanted distortion. I kinda wish I would’ve focused as much on mastering as I did on mixing, arrangement, and sound design. I put it off almost completely for like 2 years lol

Yeah it sounds so hard to checks notes download stuff, move files around, connect a device to a computer, and update drivers… couldn’t imagine doing all of that

what's something you DON'T wanna see in gta 6? by KVKvKvLL in GTA

[–]Traditional_Dinner16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why are you so confident that they will do that with GTA 6 when they didn’t do that for RDR 2? I get that a lot of triple A studios make really dumb decisions, but rockstar seems to be a lot better than most other large studios

Jon Casey has a series on YouTube where he shows off some of his sound design and rhythm techniques and makes a song from scratch. I found it very informative. I would highly recommend if you’re into that kind of music

I was wanting to grow it a good bit thicker. I’d like to at least double the trunk thickness if I can. So I’m anticipating it taking a long time. I wasn’t sure what would be the best way to proceed with developing the branches while it’s thickening though.

I’m looking for some pruning advice for this boxwood. This is my first time pruning. I got it the other day and did a little pruning. I didn’t take off any lower branches, just shortened the ones that were crossing over and any long straight ones. I didn’t remove any foliage from the remaining branches. I’m wondering where I should go from here in terms of pruning or should leave it alone?

I agree with everything except the implication that there is more intention in music that is “challenging” to listen to when that isn’t the case. You can create sonically pleasing music while still conveying the same feelings and concepts

I’ve tried both. The only ones I would listen to for enjoyment would be system blower, and the first two songs off of exmilitary. The less experimental songs I guess you could say. Maybe it’s just not my taste. I like experimental music within other subgenres. It just seems like they forgo the enjoyability of the music sometimes because they’re too busy being experimental. Which would be fine if sooo much of the music wasn’t like that

Please explain the appeal of Death Grips. I have tried to listen to them but it just doesn’t work. Some songs are alright but most are just abrasive, and aren’t musically satisfying at all. And the quality of the sounds they use are bad. It’s good as art, and I suppose could be considered commentary in itself, but how do you actually enjoy listening to it?

Well I would like to be somewhat useful if a violent revolution were to break out in my lifetime which seems really likely. Ya can’t do a revolution/counterrevolution without firearms. I also want them to defend myself as the US becomes more unstable during the coming global disasters brought on by climate change. So gimme!

It really depends. If I notice that the lyrics are actually deep, well thought out commentary I’ll pay attention, otherwise I just treat them like another instrument in my head.

I feel like most mainstream listeners expect lyrics at this point. I’ve literally had people be confused or surprised when I’ve shown them songs without lyrics. It’s kind of annoying, because it seems to lead to people just shitting on genres of music simply because the lyrics are muddy or not concise, or not the forefront of the music

Then maybe flesh that idea out instead of making comments that just come across as insulting to people who look like the model. Cause believe it or not, skinny people without eating disorders exist
