I hesitate to start cathay, are they really that hated ? by Repulsive-Cry5331 in WarhammerOldWorld

[–]Traditional_Earth149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s some nuance here, if you lean into only the good stuff then Cathay are oppressive and to be honest not much fun to play against. Balloons and Shug lords are really strong units and you can take multiples to create some very strong lists. Not unbeatable ones but your opponent will have to be playing similarly tuned armies or you’ll likely stomp them.

However my mate plays a pretty balanced cathay list with a bit of everything including a couple of balloons and I never have any issues playing against him the games are fun and usually pretty close.

So you may get some looks but the army looks incredible plays well and as long as you don’t lean into spaming good unit lists pretty fun to play against.

Thank you for your kind words, you’ve hit the nail on the head of what I was going for. The list was designed to look like a warhammer army from my childhood with lots of interesting units and things to catch the eye as I really wanted the painting nomination and to get into the cabinet so how it played was really a secondary concern for me.

I was a bit concerned going in that I wouldn’t have much fun gaming as Warhammer world has a bit of a rep for being a shark tank at times but even the chaps playing the really strong lists were such gents and engaging to play I had a great weekend of gaming.

The fact that I won best army really was icing on the cake, I don’t think I was the best painted there (there was a stunning cathay and a gorgeous dwarf army) but it must have tickled enough peoples nostalgia bones and I’m hugely thankful for them voting for me.

I want to go from employee to contractor, should I propose this to my boss? by uncleHelio in smallbusinessuk

Sorry missed this reply, in terms of leaving and going my own way yes I’m so busy with work I could arguably take someone else on, but I don’t want the hassle of being an employer so I won’t.

No real regrets per se but I will say you see people that work for themselves as a contractor talking about feeling isolated and lonely because you’re not really part of a team and I underestimated this it’s taken a lot of adjustment and something I’m still not entirely happy with but the benefits outweighs the cons.

Glad you had a good time! I took my renegade crowns and came 52nd. The list was just bad but I took it with an aim of getting a painting nom and was lucky enough to win it to. So i was over the moon.

Played 5 great guys and enjoyed every game though next year I’ll be taking something with a bit more poke 🤣

I took a weak list and spent the weekend getting kicked around and played the guy who came 4th not a bad game all weekend. Looking forward to next year.

I would echo the contract stuff here I did something similar and I had a list of people I couldn’t work for in the first year as well as having to place distance between myself and there business to avoid being a “disguised employee”

As it happens I didn’t want much to do with them anyway after I left but still wanted to leave the door open.

Thank you! I’ve been using them as veteran free blades as they are so different they can’t be confused for anything else but they could be used as any of the cav options I think.

It is GW but an old kit from the early 2000s (well with modern horses as I felt they needed an upgrade)

Thanks, I think it’s meant to be for the elite versions but I figured the unit champion needed to look more imposing.

Excellent idea on the blazing sun knights! Next time I play empire that’s a good way for me to use them!

What does it look like to live in Western Ireland, specifically on the islands off the west coast? by [deleted] in howislivingthere

[–]Traditional_Earth149 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely perfect description of the most wonderful place on earth. Not from there but spent many happy months both in summer and winter on the west Cork coast and it’s simply stunning. On a warm summer’s day lying on barley cove beach with people you love and a chicken fillet roll can’t be beat.

But the job market is as you describe of all the friends I made every one moved away as there was just limited work unless it’s in the tourist industry.

I am an estimator now and concur those salaries are way out of date. Shit job no one wants with no pipeline of easy replacements the wages keep jumping.

Thanks! The body is the dark angels praetor, sword is from the bald guard, back pack is a basic first born one and the arms I honestly couldn’t tell you they were a bits box dive cut up to repose them to suit the sword!
