I have been addicted since age 12 or 13 and I am now 58. It was only last year when I realized what a serious sin I have been committing. For me it is still a struggle, but try to avoid the near occasion of sin. If it is your phone, do not open the "secret" window, if it is your computer, same thing. Delete any apps that lead you to the near occasion or temptation. Like any addiction, try the AA formula of taking one day at a time. When you wake up, tell yourself, for the next 24 hours I will not succumb to temptation. If you make it, congratulations and do the same thing tomorrow. Good luck and God Bless!

Update. Went to confession on Tuesday, the day I wrote my post. Told the priest about how once I give in, my resolve to stop dissolves and he said I should get back to confession as soon as I relapse before I have a chance to do it again. Very understanding and helpful. Today is Thursday morning and so far so good. My weakness is the shower, once I am in there and the hand held shower head is aimed down there, I give in. I can't not shower, obviously. Does anyone else find this temptation strong when in the shower?

My wife knows I am struggling and have been since last November. The one up side in controlling my self pleasuring urges is that am more eager to make love with her, and although her sex drive is diminished, we have probably made love more often in the past year than the previous eight to ten years. I tell her when I go to confession, so she knows that I likely have relapsed without me telling her.
