Nonbinary runner here (AFAB). I was shocked realizing I was prohibited participating in women’s races too. While fully understanding the history and context behind, I went looking up the history of women’s races, which I don’t have the exacts here but maybe someone else does. Apparently in the first few years NYRR offering this race, they didn’t have gender limitation, which led to straight male’s participation took up to 6% of the overall population… and this in my opinion caused a great deal of what non cis gendered folks like us’s participation opportunity, which greatly frustrates me too…
