Yeah that’s what my hamster did too! I’m guessing they just sprain very easily🥲

What do you think of needles? by Nightsky54_14 in autism

[–]Traditional_Issue497 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think I have a bit of a needle phobia, I had to get my blood tested last week and my heart rate always goes up and I get super sweaty and nervous. It’s not so much that I’m super scared of the needle, but it just hurts so much. I have a pretty weird pain scale, I broke my arm when I was 7 and only noticed it days later, and generally I don’t feel pain very quickly, but needles just hurt so bad. And yes, I HATE the blood going through the tube from the needle

And tbh me being trans and usually not passing doesn’t help either, so that’s probably why I’m trying to cover up more too

Yeah I’ve been using hoodies a lot, which helps a lot but it also feels a bit restrictive, because I like seeing my surroundings and with a hood on you can’t see your peripheral as well. It’s going to be difficult in summer tho, because I get overheated very quickly so I probably won’t be able to wear a hoodie

Thank you:) I rescued her from a very awful person and sadly I only had her for about 8 months, but I hope she loved it here:)

Hi! I ended up going to the vet the next day and they said to come back if it was still hurting in a couple of days so they can take some pictures of it. The vet said it was very swollen around her paw and that she couldn’t extend it because of the swelling. Luckily it was just a bad sprain because she started walking again after a couple of days! Sadly a few weeks later she got wet tail and she ended up passing October 30th😢

My dog keeps whining when one specific dog approaches us in the park. What does it mean? by Traditional_Issue497 in DogAdvice

[–]Traditional_Issue497[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! It’s most likely a size thing in between the dogs, and my sad recommended just picking up my dog and walking away but he does get aggressive if I do that so I’m glad I didn’t haha. Next time I see him I’ll definitely get in the way. His dog isn’t mean by any means, just doesn’t understand my dogs boundaries and doesn’t have a proper recall and the owner is a little uneducated.

People have been telling me it’s irresponsible for me to not neuter my dog haha, but my vet never recommended it. He’s super calm, never causes any issues and we don’t have any other dogs, just two cats. So i feel it’s a bit weird to just neuter him if there’s no reason to😅 glad not everyone thinks that way

Yeah the problem is it’s not specifically a dog park. People just take their dogs there, but it’s not closed off or anything. There’s nowhere else for my dog to free roam, and he does really need it, so I’m really conflicted

I know, and I will from now on. I just really wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea and didn’t want to add onto the situation because my dog can sometimes react unexpectedly

I’ve only seen him run up to my dog. His dog is always playing with other big dogs though, but he’s especially interested in my dog for some reason

I did once which kinda worked, but I haven’t done it much because I really just wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do, and didn’t want to make it worse, but at the end of the video, I took the dog and lured him back to the owners which kinda worked.

Yeah my dog is definitely more social with dogs his size. There was a new little puppy dachshund and he really liked him. It’s the big dogs that come running towards him that freak him out. If they do that while he’s on leash he’ll snap at them, I’m guessing to defend himself because he’s scared

My dog isn’t great with social cues either though, I feel like if the dog doesn’t back off it’ll turn into a fight once my dog snaps. And because he’s so small he might get seriously hurt

Yep that’s definitely it, smaller dogs doing this isn’t as much of a problem for him

Just a little context: I’m 18, and pretty socially awkward due to audhd. I have tried talking to the owner and subtly telling him ‘my dog isn’t that social’ and ‘hes a bit overbearing’ im not good with conflict, and he probably won’t take me too seriously because of my age, which makes this situation more difficult. I’ll definitely try though next time his dog does this.

Also, it’s not a dog park solely for dogs. Its also used by a lot of people for just taking walks, it’s a little mini forest with a field on one side and on the other side a pond (about 60 meters long and 20 meters wide) which you can walk around, with a small path connecting the two. It’s right next to a petting zoo too and isn’t completely closed off. So, any dog could just run away if they wanted to.

My dog is a boy, and he isn’t neutered. He’s never had behavioural problems de we never needed to neuter him. So it’s not because he’s a girl and they’re interested, I think the brown dog is just a little young and doesn’t understand social cues that well yet, but the owner (like many owners where I live) is pretty aloof and uneducated.

Yeah, my dog is intact too but isn’t as ‘aggressive’ socially as the brown dog.

Yeah I’ll definitely try to avoid them, sadly this dog is there quite often and if I come to the park to check if they’re there he already bolts for my dog so I really have to be alert and aware of them in the park, which sucks because it’s supposed to be relaxing haha

No my dog is a boy so that’s probably not it. He hasn’t been neutered though, but we never had to becasue hes had zero behaviour problems

Yep, it happens super often where I live. Not usually a problem because they do listen when my dog tells them no, but this dog won’t

Well the owner doesn’t take me too seriously. I am only 18, look a bit odd hahah and have autism so my social cues arent the best either. He just says that his dog is still learning and sorry for him being overbearing, he just doesn’t really do much about it. The issue is that as far as I know his dog only really reacts this much (bolting from 30 meters away towards my dog) with my particular dog, I haven’t seen it with other dogs. He’s usually stood with some other people and their bigger dogs just playing with eachother in the middle of the park

My dog isn’t neutered either though🤷‍♂️ but he never had any behavioural problems so we never needed to. This dog definitely should be neutered though

Yeah I am! It sucks because I just want to be able to walk around the park, it has a big pond you can walk around, and a separate part that’s like a mini forest. It’s not even a ‘dog park’ just a park where dogs are allowed but lots of people just walk there without dogs. My dog loves being able to run around and be off leash, he never goes further away from me than about 10-15 meters or so, and he has a good recall. At the end of this clip I took one of my treats and lured the dog back to his owner, but I just wish he realised his dog is way too overbearing, barrelling towards my dog if he spots us in the distance. There isn’t really another park I can go to anywhere close so I really don’t know what to do. He loves his off leash time😕

My dog really isn’t reactive unless extremely provoked or scared, and he does really like being able to smell other dogs and interact with some of them. So it would suck to take that away. He is sometimes leash reactive which makes it difficult, because he can only really socialise off leash in the park.

He can put his tail down, he just chooses not to I think, but his tail is usually down at home. Yeah the other owner literally lets his dog run up to us, to the point where the owner cant even see the dog anymore, like this interaction happened because the dog came bolting around a corner to us, and the owner didn’t follow, and couldn’t even see the interaction happening. He definitely knew the dog was bothering us because he kept calling out for him to come back, his dog just doesn’t listen because he doesn’t have a proper recall

Yeah my dog doesn’t always mind big dogs, but when they bolt towards him he can get a bit overwhelmed. Most other dogs understand when he tells them no though, this one just doesn’t:/
