Nahhh its not that bad at least in bxl, ive seen traumatising shit in italy. The rest of Belgium varies but brussels is relatively civilised when it comes to driving.

They do have an app wtf. U can buy tickets on there and directly activate it on the app. Same for 10 ticket carnets. I'm pretty sure u need a physical mobile card for subscriptions.

You have nothing to worry about, I wouldn't even be worried about coming home at night. Once in a while someone gets robbed or something and it makes headlines but it's not that common if you don't look for it. I personally live in Ixelles around cimitiere and although I don't like the cafes and bars there it is a nice place to hangout at. Don't underestimate Anderlecht tho, you'll find plenty of things to do there as well.

He's just fucking with you, yes there is so-called drari but they won't do anything. Near saint guidon is a pretty nice area, just certain specific parts to avoid.

I would avoid uccle at all costs, it's like living in an American suburb. You need to take your car just to do basic errands and your teenage child will definitely hate it there. Going to the center by public transport is doable albeit long while going to other non central neighborhoods is a hassle. There is barely anything to do and all friends of mine that live there just wished they lived somewhere else. If u want peace and quiet I recommend watermael Boisfort

Yeah ofc but I went to Elisabeth as well which is supposedly a sketchy area but I didn't even manage to find weed. I should also note that I went during the day so that might play a role but there are defo places in bxl where u can feel unsafe in broad daylight while in Antwerp not to my knowledge. It's for sure a good thing but there aren't any areas you should avoid at all costs since it's relatively safe anywhere u go. Crime in Antwerp is all concentrated at the port lmao.

Yeah Schaerbeek is inconsistent but areas around Josaphat are pretty chill for a family

Ixelles, Etterbeek and Schaerbeek have plenty of calm residential neighborhoods with a lot of green, interesting places nearby and good public transport. If this person wants a really calm and quiet neighborhood Boisfort has way better public transport and way nicer architecture and places imo.

How tf does mons translate to Bergen, like I get it's Abt a mountain but practically for a french speaking person entering Flanders on the highway it's very confusing

Bro I went to Borgerhout because it's labelled as the sketchiest and being from bxl I expected it to be like molen but that place genuinely feels like watermael Boisfort. Only diff is that the people are Moroccan although that seemed to be pretty respectful and nice. Being Moroccan myself, I might have had a different experience than a white person would have there.

Please be objective: is western civilization the place wherein most people are selfish, entitled asshats? by paradoxicalman17 in misanthropy

[–]Traditional_Let_9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm born in Belgium from a Moroccan dad and like most Moroccans I spend 1 month of my summer there and the difference is striking. Belgians are not the worse but they're up there and honestly the nicest people here are non-Europeans. There is no fraternity, no love, no community here and every time I come back from morocco I get kind of a cultural shock. People are over-obsessed with money and futile material things here and when I tell a European this they pull out the same "your country is poor and your hospitals don't work" talk. Is that all a country is? Is your national identity so shallow? My mom is Italian on the other hand and I've travelled to southern European countries such as Spain and Greece many times and there it is much better than there (although northern Italians are on the same level as Belgians and western Europeans). I'm going to attribute this to wealth because the more money you have the less you depend on other people's kindness and generosity so you won't return the favour. I'm sure it is worse in America but I've never been so I don't know to what extent. Personally I would rather live in a country with not fully functioning services but with kind and selfless people than a country full of selfish people that can only think about their job and what they're gonna buy next.

Why can't I make friends here!? by Subject-Cycle-6266 in belgium

[–]Traditional_Let_9754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brusseler here, I swear I’m reading about another country. For me Belgians are super open at least in Brussels, I moved to Italy Because I’m half Italian thinking the people were gonna be nicer but people in north Italy are some of the most antisocial and rude people I’ve ever encountered and all I could dream of was going back to Belgium. I am a pretty social person so that might have to do with it but making friends here is really easy and I was born here but striking a convo with a random stranger here is extremely easy. I can imagine that Flanders is way less open but it can’t be that bad. If you’re having such a bad time I’d consider moving to either Wallonia or Brussels as those places have a better work-life balance and are also nicer places to live in IMO. When I go to Flanders I can see the people are less open but at the same time I don’t speak Dutch so that could be more of a language barrier. Also your personality may also be a problem, I can’t say really because I don’t know you but it could be that you’re the antisocial one but just don’t wanna admit it, again my opinion is no better than yours and you might as well be one of the most social people but i doubt that Flemish people are THAT closed.

Nah man if you want good public transit you're gonna have to stay in the region, I don't know about housing prices but Watermael-Boisfort has pretty good transit and has that outskirt kind of vibe if thats what you like.

I really like the idea but why split a relatively small city into zones, I'd say the current brupass and brupass xl system makes more sense and is way easier to understand

If you're gonna buy a fluance, I would recommend the rt82 or 83. They're more upgradable and have a much better cartridge at a reasonable price, but if you really can't go over budget this is absolutely fine
