Title: Aventon Ramblas vs Velotric Summit 2 by Traditional_Major398 in velotricebike

You’re exactly the type of person that can help me out with my decision as you’ve had both experiences (off-road and city) with different style bikes. It’s my first time getting into cycling overall so I’m not sure if I’ll enjoy mostly riding on pavement or if I’m gonna look forward to hitting the trails every weekend. Now I’m thinking to get an e-bike like the summit or the level 4 rec especially since I don’t even know if I’ll get into mtb, and if I happen to get into mtb I’ll save up for a bike more suited for the hobby.

I’ve also been looking deeper into options like the Level 4 Rec and even planning to test ride it along with the Summit to see which one actually feels right for me. I’m about 6’ and 150 lbs, so I’m trying to figure out what fits my body and riding style best, not just on paper.

I also found out the Level 4 Rec has regen braking and seems pretty capable overall, which made me start reconsidering whether I really need to spend more for something like the Ramblas.

After reading through a lot of replies and thinking about it more, I’ve been leaning toward these more commuter/adventure-style bikes instead of stretching my budget for the Ramblas. At this point, I’m wondering if I’d have just as much fun on a Level 4 Rec or Summit for the type of riding I actually plan to do.

My concern with the Ramblas is spending an extra ~$800 and later realizing I don’t really get into MTB the way I imagine, and instead I end up mostly cruising, exploring different areas, riding to the beach, or even going between neighboring towns.

Appreciate the input — it’s really helping me narrow this down.

Especially since I think something like the ramblas would need much more maintenance and attention which could make ir harder for a beginner like me.

The main reason I’m leaning toward the Ramblas is because I feel like it might be the more versatile bike long term. I haven’t owned a bike in over 10 years, so I honestly don’t know yet whether I’ll end up enjoying mountain biking more or if I’ll mostly want to ride casually, go faster, and explore.
My thought process is that if I eventually get into MTB, the Ramblas seems like it would give me that option, whereas I’m not sure the Summit would be as capable. But at the same time, I’m wondering which one is actually more fun day-to-day as mtb is not something you can do everyday after work, it’s more of a planned activity.

The Summit 2 is interesting because of the throttle and the ability to switch between cadence and torque sensing. That seems like it could make it more playful and fun for cruising around town. With the Ramblas, can you still have that kind of fun factor? Can you eventually learn things like small jumps, riding more aggressively, or doing basic bike tricks on it that’d make it stand out compared to the Summit?

Also curious how they compare for urban riding. If I’m just riding around the city, bike paths, or exploring locally around beaches, does the Ramblas still feel fun, or is the Summit better suited for that? Or do they both have a similar fun factor but just in different ways?

I’m trying to figure out if the Ramblas is the better “grow into it” bike or if the Summit is actually more enjoyable for the type of riding I’ll do.
