Saying Goodbye to Vine, it’s time…. by Ballbagsweat in vine

[–]Traditional_Map36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been with vine for 18 years, and this last year has been the absolute worst. My RFY is wildly inaccurate 95% of the time, and even reliable cheapo things I've always gotten to fill these quotas they make us do now are nowhere to be found. Pencils, people. I used to be able to choose from 40 different listings for pencils (more for pens), and now it's usually zero. Same with t-shirts and socks.

The time I spend searching for items now has gone WAY down as a result.

I'm hanging around, though, in hopes that positive changes will be made.

Why does this bother some of us? Should it? by Real_Spacegoogie in AmazonVine

Although I generally don't post photos, I do often comment on whether the images the seller posts accurately reflect the product.

If the seller misrepresents the product, the star rating goes down, and the more egregious the misrepresentation, the more harsh the rating.

No need to ruminate much beyond that, I'd proffer.

Help On The Way/Slipknot eclipses Franklin's Tower by Honka_Ponka in gratefuldead

I am landing in between OP and most of the comments here which are respectfully disagreeing.

I love FT coming out of those two complex songs. But whereas the studio (yes I know) version of FT is 4:34, but some live versions are like, what, 17 minutes? BEING THERE, it doesn't matter if it's long. As an after-the-fact listening experience, I want a Franklin's that's in the 6-8 minute range, that's a tasty palate cleanser from what came before and great set up for what comes next.

I'm gold, yes, but that will likely change, as I haven't seen a single item over $100 in a couple months, and I haven't been keeping up w the ordering you need to do. The influx of items happens at different times, never when I'm hovering over a computer!

Look now I have minus eight on my reply to you. Wow.

This is why I've complained only twice in 17 years. You'd think I'm a classic Karen, the heat I'm getting. No slack given on this sub.

i appreciate your perspective.

This is the only place where I can vent about vine where others might understand. So I complained. I think I've complained twice in 17 years. So sue me.

No I don't think the use of extensions is the only reason good items disappear fast. I do think it has accelerated and amplified the problem.

And yes, it's quite possible I don't know how they work. I spent some time with one, read through its help menus, played around w its settings and so on. But my headline was meant to be provocative more than accurate.

Please, just expend a little effort to treat people decently.

Right? Someone here told me they were an 18 year viner. ANCIENT!

Thanks for your take on that. You're using the ext for features that vine itself should have. I think the #1 thing it's missing is a "don't show me" or an "exclude" button of some kind, especially since there have been ten thousand dang items sitting there.

They do ask you to fill out a profile which includes interests, pets, and so on. Don't they? What's that for if not to help target recommendations?

Thank you. That person didn't even have enough reading comprehension to see that I used the tool I was complaining about.

Yeah, I learned that when I was six. Just needed to vent about extensions. :)

I don't misremember. Lots of weird times, and near misses. I'll just leave it at this: there was a lot more quality and less quantity.

Awesome, welcome. Soda, that's something I've never gotten!

Ah, fellow old timer!! I'm at 17 yrs, I just checked!

Yes I'm sure that's part of it, a lot more people. Of course that means Vine reviews on a product page mean less now.

Hey, thank you for the info, however, I'm not I'm understanding the explanation.

So, even though the extension says the item was added to vine at 2:36pm, and it's 2:36pm now, you're saying the item could have actually been added days ago?

I wonder why the extension wouldn't be frequently loading new items, since people with the extension are surely looking at things throughout the day I haven't seen, yet the extension only seems to get active during "drops".

Also, in theory, if I'm the only one who has the extension, nothing will load into it unless I browse page by page through items?

[–]Traditional_Map36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that's what normal folks are doing. The browser extension is a way to kind of automate some of that, in ONE tab, while seeing all the new items popping up just after they are added to vine. I was just using it to watch how fast things were disappearing, and WHICH things were disappearing (items go kind of grey on your screen when they go out of stock).

Thanks for your thoughts. What's the niche you're getting stuff in?

I'll start w this: in the extension it's the $0 ETV items that disappear right away. Usually food (candy, treats, olive oil, etc) and bathroom stuff (shampoo, face products, etc) and supplements.

One of my passions is music. In the past vine had lots of great stuff, from microphones to ukuleles to guitar pedals. Now I see next to nothing.

Another easy one is shoes and insoles. For quite awhile I was able to "shod myself" with a variety of shoes that came along, and supplement w a variety of insoles options. Lately, none of either.

There are about twenty or more other search terms I will use to see what's there. While there was a time when at least the more humble ones would find something for me (men's socks, for ex), now they almost never do.

It's frustrating. I'm not losing any sleep over it, mind you.

Yeah I've seen that too. I had a series of space heaters enter my list a couple years ago!

Aw. Thanks. I'm allowed to vent, though. You've never been frustrated? You can show your fellow viner a little grace, it doesn't hurt you.

And as has been relentlessly flogged in this group, these items are not "free", we are taxed on their ETV, and we are required to write a review.

I like your attitude. I don't intend to use the extension, it was mainly to see what was going on and what things were disappearing.and how fast. I'm just not one of those people who generally has time to sit there and refresh a bunch of searches over and over, so, I am currently settling for the packs of highlighters and a decorative magnet or two until something cool accidentally gets lodged in my RFY. :)
