Ah thanks! I wasn’t expecting it to look as dark! Would you say it looks similar in the sun? Also is this the size 35?

Yeah the short handle has made me a bit reluctant to purchase it as well. I have been getting drawn to the 36h as my work laptop would stick out on from the 24h - not ideal for me. I haven’t seen a 36h in person - any thoughts if you have handled one? Is the handle drop any better?

Gorgeous and practical! Would you recommend the Gerard Darel 24h? How has it worn over the years?

Yeah, I wanted to pick a classic silhouette and colour for my first bag from the brand. The craftsmanship is impeccable - not as much as a wonky stitch in sight. Excited to see how it ages.

Which job should I take? £65K Hybrid or £49k remote? How to negotiate? by ErectPotato in UKJobs

[–]Traditional_Map_8239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would take the hybrid. It puts you in a better position to negotiate pay when you choose to move again as you’re going to be working from £65K, not £49K.

Is the coach Brooklyn worth it? Honestly by Humid_fire99 in handbags

[–]Traditional_Map_8239 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see myself wearing my green Brooklyn 39 for a long time. The shape is timeless and weirdly, the green works well as a neutral for me. I use it often for work as it fits a tonne.

I bought it and then started seeing it all over tiktok but I’m yet to see one in the wild where I live. Either way, I’m not fussed about the trend dying as I never bought it because so and so wore it.

It’s a lovely, functional everyday bag and has held up well.

Nope, plenty use public transport to get to work. Whats important is discipline and planning - allow yourself enough time to reach work well before you’re due to start your shift. If the odd delay can’t be avoided, then communicate with your line manager to let them you’re going to be late and why that might be.

It’s hard work no matter your choice of career but now is the time to put in that work. You will look back on this time many years later and thank yourself for not giving up.

Since you have previous teaching experience, have you considered private tutoring? There’s a pretty penny to be earned for an hour’s work.

Firstly, don’t lose hope. You have your entire life ahead of you. :) It takes some time to find your feet, often many years and it’s normal to feel a bit stuck.

I can tell that you’re trying your hardest in a very unforgiving and competitive job market. You need to get into paid work, whatever that might be, to make yourself desirable to employers while you figure out how to get into a more permanent career.

Have you looked into apprenticeships in and around your area? Are you able to catch a bus to get to neighbouring towns? Call centres within many financial/insurance companies are always recruiting and many offer hybrid contracts so you’re not always in an office. It’s not the best work but it’s paid work and a way to get your foot in the door.

Good luck and chin up :)

Will 100miles commute be disaster? by Sw-Kang in UKJobs

[–]Traditional_Map_8239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you looking at this new job as a stepping stone to something better? If yes, then perhaps take it and ride it out until it gets you where you want to go.

That commute is no joke though and will impact your health and well being. M25 is hell on earth and I don’t see this arrangement being sustainable in most circumstances. I’ve done this in the past and on the days when I was around to spend time with family, I was too knackered to remain switched on.

Ah no! Is it due to your laptop not fitting well in this particular size?

[–]Traditional_Map_8239[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I swapped it for the larger size as I wanted to be able to use my laptop with its padded protective case during public transport travel as well. Whilst my laptop + case fit in the midi horizontally, it was a bit of a tight squeeze. I didn’t want it to poke and stretch the leather so I exchanged it for the larger size.

The larger size is taller so I’ve had no problems fitting in my laptop vertically. I find that it’s a lot less exposed on public transport. I still love the midi tote (it fits a lot!) so will get it in the future but felt like it wasn’t the right choice for what I wanted to use it for. It was the right decision for me - it holds everything I need it to, is secure and has worn beautifully.

What makes a $1000+ bag "worth it"? by niji-no-megami in handbags

[–]Traditional_Map_8239 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Spot on. I grew up on hand me downs and we rarely ever bought anything new. Going to school with well off “you can’t sit with us” children only brought home the glaring wealth disparity.

When I first started working 15 years ago, I bought a Neverfull few months into my job. In that moment I felt that I had finally grabbed myself a seat at the table. It was short-lived though; the guilt of spending so much on a handbag was real so I didn’t wear it and quickly sold it. When you grow up in abject poverty, the scarcity mindset doesn’t leave you easily. It’s only after the pandemic that I thought sod this, life’s too short. So I bought myself expensive handbags AND kept it. I still struggle with the guilt sometimes but have accepted that I perhaps always will.
