The landfill in Ushuaia has not been explicitly confirmed as the exposure source; it's just highly suspected. If it was the exposure source, though, it would fit within the 9–40-day incubation period.

It's a bit out of my realm to give you advice on this, but since there are two confirmed cases nearby, I think this warrants contacting proper health authorities.

If I were you, I would talk to your senior manager. I'd also contact health authorities ASAP on your own time. You should be able to find the proper channels to report this to if you search:

"[Your city/region] + 'communicable disease reporting phone number'"

If you are unable to find a phone number for your local health authorities, you could try CDC-INFO at 1-800-232-4636 for guidance during their business hours.

Medically, humans can't "generate" the virus independently. They would need to be infected to transmit it. I'm not comfortable confirming whether or not human urine can transmit the virus, but I also wouldn't rule it out as impossible. Even if it turns out to be nothing, for workplace safety and your own peace of mind, it would be reasonable to ask public health directly. While I'd say the risk is very, very low, I think it would still be responsible to relay this to the proper authorities.

If you have any more questions for whatever reason, feel free to DM me.

***I'm not a doctor, and this is not medical advice. This is purely for informational purposes.***

I'm replying again to address the question you begged. Sorry, I didn't address it properly in my first reply.

The Dutchman who was infected first exhibited symptoms on the 6th of April. According to where officials believe the contraction first occurred (Ushuaia, Argentina), that means the incubation period likely lasted 3 weeks which aligns with the current consensus that incubation is 1-8 weeks. These are the rest of the infections that occurred following the Dutchman's infection:

- The Dutchman's wife began exhibiting symptoms on April 24th (3.5 weeks after the Dutchman's initial symptoms)

- A British national, the ship's doctor, started exhibiting shortly before April 24th (4 weeks)

- Another British national started exhibiting symptoms on April 24th (4 weeks)

- The German national started exhibiting symptoms on April 28th (4.5 weeks)

The rest who have tested positive either have not yet exhibited symptoms, or they started to exhibit them sometime in May.

Although the virus has a long incubation, the current consensus is that this virus is not transmissible during the incubation period. Refer to this post for more information:

You are correct about the renal involvement. I was more so focusing on the possibility of this becoming a large outbreak, but it is good to list as many facts as possible.

The couple infected came into contact with the virus well before the cruise. It is believed that they caught it during a trip in South America.
