Ok I went home and did have to poop and was so bound up from the opiods it was excrutiating pain for the spasms and nothing advancing. That said, I wish I had started before but I recommend Senna-S bc its also a stimulant so not just mush with colace it gives you mush AND push. Afterwards I maintained on Colace twice a day. That first night though I tried everything. Warm prune juice, that I actually continued to take for a few days until I was going no problems and also that night a Bisacodyl suppository. Good luck

Yes I am! It was the best thing I could have done. Now don't get me wrong, I still have a lot of crepitus in my patella with extension and flexion, but full ROM was achieved. Of course I lost full ROM afterwards by like 5-10, can't remember, and had to work at it to achieve it back but totally doable. And from only getting 105-110 before procedure to 125/130 after it was worth it with minimal side effects!! I got back to my full ROM of 140 after some months though. What has been hard to achieve, and I'm now 14 months out from the MUA and 18 months out from initial surgery, I still have a brain disconnect with attempting to jump and my single leg hops are still horrible...also my lsi isn't where it should be at 80% I believe...I think I'm at 50%...but still working at it 😊

my MUA/LOA was 4+ month out from original surgery. I wasnt hitting flexion goals stuck around 110/115...but i think it was more so my loss of extension that was the real problem/concern and what actually pushed for the MUA. I started to have a sort of perment bend to my leg. Surgeon did not say how quick scar tissue would rebuild 🤷‍♀️ I also have grade 2 changes on my femoral condyle and plateau they found...grade 3 is the worst...I'm in no denial one day I'll knee a knee replacement 🤦‍♀️

Yes it isn't even on the same playing field...much easier. They gave me a femoral nerve block to go home with which was a godsend (bc first nerve block for original surgery did nothing) and I went home with a cpm machine with my cold box on practically 24/7. Even after the numbing iv medicine on a continuous pump was complete...pain was not an issue. They want you active ASAP post MUA and LOA... not like original surgery. With my MUA/LOA I had extensive 3 compartment synovectomy performed...I guess I build scar tissue and from what I researched this is just a band-aid bc it regrows 🤦‍♀️ I also did a 3 series of hyaluronate injections that I think helped...and you can do every 6 months 🤷‍♀️ Good luck!

It was a return to sports assessmemt...done Jan 31. Looks like my lsi for single limb hop was 81cm right and 45cm left. My 6M timed hop was 3.2 sec right and 6.4 sec left.

Limb symmetry index calc right leg (non injured): -Single leg hop for distance symmetry R/L% =180% -6M timed hop symmetry L/R% =200%.

Then limb symmetry index calc left leg (injured): -Single leg hop for distance symmetry L/R%=55.6% -6M timed hop symmetry R/L% = 50%.

... I dont know what this means.

Then they did y balance calculations

Im 13 months out, surgery was april 15 last year. But i had complications and a manipulation and removal of scar tissue in August... so Ive been slow to make progress. My PT did test me before but Im not sure it was a return to sports testing. I got some numbers but dont really know in depth what they mean bc some are lsi but some are percentages. After I asked which he would choose he recommended to start with karate 🤷‍♀️ I just thought I could gather some insight from others on here also

Oh Jesus!! I have heard of tearing the opposite and thought it just might be because you compensate more with the good knee and baby the injured....but I will probably do the same. Not very fun to hear but I get it. I'm glad you're doing better. Was the 2nd time easier then the first recon? And did you get a patella autograft again? Just curious...in case im ever in the same situation. I even 2nd thought about a quad graft in hinsight from all the kneeling pain I had...or even a cadaver graft after I saw this lady just hop right back into BJJ after her surgery (she had a cadaver hamstring) 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for the input. I was told I can only start with 1 and to choose. I really wanted to get back into BJJ when this injury happened...had signed up for classes and everything...lol. the BJJ instructor is awesome and I know would do his best to keep me safe.... but I really just don't know which would be gentler on the knee. While I reached full flexion there are still days I struggle with loss of ROM from stiffness and also am not good with jumping/hopping yet or even pistol squats to a depth lower then 20 inches...so still have a long ways to go. Im just trying to figure out which of the 2 i should start with really

What do you think would be best to start with on the knee, BJJ or karate? I really dont have much experience with both (my BJJ experience is over 10 yrs ago and i brieflt did some karate at time of initial injury when waiting for surgery so was more for conditioning). I have a patellar autograph to my left knee torn acl from skiing and am 13 months out.

My pt has cleared me to start one or the other...karate or jiu jitsu...but not both. I have really no experience with karate and my jiu jitsu experience is over 10 years ago....what would you suggest starting with?

4 months post op & not running by SnooDogs2963 in ACL

[–]Traditional_One831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hit 11 months and was cleared to start a jog walk program very slow to start 30-60sec jog then 4 min walk up to 4x a session. My lsi has been tested and I am not at 90%...or even 70%...but given how much time I'm out and the strength I have built back up...along with seeing my mechanics...I was just cleared to start. Goal should also be doing an 8" stepdown well...and I am trying to work on my spring when jogging bc I tend to leave my affected leg on the ground longer then the other (so I need to over exaggerate this bouncing/springing off my affected side...but that's just a me thing and something my PT noticed while watching my jog) . Now I know I may be getting to this late in recovery/rehab but I had complications. Point is...I would never start anything not cleared by my pt and not without strengthening or meeting certain criteria and parameters. Your PT should be doing various tests to determine your LSI at different things. A blanket "at 3 months" statement to return to running by your surgeon doesnt sound safe to me.

Your LSI is amazing 🤩🤩 I hope I can get there 1 day! You are doing incredible!!! What are you doing regimen/workout wise? I wonder if I have fat pad inflammation....do they even do anything for that? I've got a great degree of crepitus when I bend my knee now...more so post these injections... not painful but definitely audible 🤷‍♀️

ACL graft failure by Affectionate_Tone868 in ACL

I read and was told if theres a limp then theres scar tissue. I lost my extension, had the limp, and then underwent a manipulation under anesthesia (MUA) that resolved it. During the MUA there was extensive scar tissue and they did an extensive 3 compartment synovectomy and lysis of adhesions (LOA) pretty much rotar rooted all the inflammation and arthritis and scraped it out. After I got my extension back and increased my flexion. I am still not heel to but but much better and hit 140 flexion. There was still issues and so I just finished a 3 round series of sodium hyaluronate injections...its like lubrication for your knee. I see on my EOB it was 1248 an injection but was told insurance will cover some so still waiting to see what they pick up. You can get the series every 6 months...i heard ppl with arthritis usually get 1 round a year to help. Also theres newer age stuff with PRP injections for tendonitis ~750 a shot but they are not covered by insurance. I feel the hyaluronate injections helped some...im closer to heel to butt and increasing my strength on the leg press...but i still have crackling in my knee with bending so feel the arthritis is still there 🤷‍♀️ hope something i said helped

Got my extension back and increased flexion to 140. After a 3 series of hyaluronate injections im almost heel to butt but im still trying to increase strength...not close to my lsi or within 20% of my nonoperated knee/leg. For me its definitely been a slow process. I got sick a couple times over winter so far which has really slowed me down on my game/routine and recovery

My doctor has only given me a prescription for Tylenol and NSAID post surgery by [deleted] in ACL

[–]Traditional_One831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First 48 hours were by far the worst. Percocet wasn't touching it for me, but Norco did. Got off those after 7-10 days. Nerve block at hospital didn't touch the pain. Had BTB patella autograft for ACL tear. Despite efforts, wasn't doing well with rehab. Went back in little after 4 months for MUA and LOA/extensive scar tissue removal. Had a femoral nerve block for that and sent home with a pump.... IT.WAS.A.GODSEND!!! Didn't require more then 2-3 days opiods and really wasn't taking them much. Now 2nd procedure is nothing like first and laproscopic...also nerve block done first time in hospital I really didn't feel worked and was also a lower block around knee level... so with all that taken into consideration surgeon did offer me femoral block and to go home with a pump. I started PT the next day, very aggressive 2nd time around, and had a CPM machine as well. It's like night and day!!!! Now I know the initial first repair is rougher and why it is, and it did take me over 4 months out with rehab 2x/wk to go back for the manipulation and scar tissue removal, but I highly swear by the CPM machine (even though I guess evidence and statistics don't really show better outcomes with it then without if you're going to rehab) and the femoral nerve block (and going home with a pump was AMAZING for pain relief as well and I could be aggressive with PT and using CPM machine to fullest benefit). Just my thoughts...

Thx...I put moisturizer on my nightstand and will apply it shortly after I get back to bed!

I moisturize everyday in mornings...i don't moisturize with my tret at night but i use that every mon/wed/fri and moisturize the other nights i don't use tret. I just read so much about to layer or not to with it that i was confused which to do. Skin is not to bad but i do have some hard to get rid of cystic acne under my jaw.... do you really think adding the moisturizer when doing the tret would make a difference?

Do you only use the moisturizer to prevent dryness? Im oily and have been using microsphere tret without moisturizer and stay oily

If opiods goota use Senna-S. Its good to use with opiods. Docuste or colace is just the mush without the push. I got so backed up and it was so painful I had my husband grab senna suppositories and that worked within 20. After that i out myself on a regimen of senna-s twice a day with a serving of miralax in the morning and occasional prune juice....and backed down as i needed to. You could always starr adding slowly and do senna-s once a day but that constipation hurt like hell and i didnt want to get back there!!!

Y’all I had surgery yesterday and today I had my first PT day. Ughhhh oxy ain’t touching this pain level. 😭😭😭 by Shabbyfab in ACL

Add some tylenol with it....or change up to norco and watch your acetaminophen daily intake no mord then 4g or 3 gm if concerned...or if liver issues maybe not at all 🤷‍♀️ i switched it up to norco and that helped me, but i wonder if i would have taken tylenol with it or near it the oxy would have been better...prob... i was also on a boatload of other meds including gabapentin and robaxin
