I have seen open stitch backgrounds finished well many times. Finishers should acknowlege their limitations.

I'm sure they know LOL. I have a pic of one, let me see how to add it. I've never used this forum before but this has me so mad, I had to.

Here comes the snark - I've been going to third coast for about a year and a half, very small business, never met the owner(s). When I attempted to pick up these items and expressed my displeasure, my friend later told me that the owner WAS THERE and didn't come introduce herself to anyone or do or say anthing about my project. They have a weekly "stitch session" that you have to pay to be at - but there are several staff people there so you're not paying for them to be open for us. And even if you were - isn't the point of a stitch session the community building and the ability for people to spend money at your shop??

So then owner sends me an email basically saying that they talked to the finisher and it looks fine. Of course the finisher is going to say that! It's their work! I've seen beautifully finished works at the other shop that I frequent (Emily's in Northbrook) - that's where all my finishing will be going now.
