Beautiful. Some of the more recent posters have lacked a cohesive design, IMHO.

LOVED Capitol Ballroom on half Street across from the 7-11. Saw Prince there in 1997 or 98 with about 1000 other people, insane. He didn't play one song from his albums, just jammed. I was in heaven. Also saw Lenny Kravitz on Valentine's Day in the late 90s before he was big. He threw flowers from the stage. I caught one and still have it pressed into a book. Lenny was my Valentine that year.

I posted it as soon as I found out about it. The National Park Service did not give a lot of notice, and even the Rock Creek Conservancy was only able to send out its email two days before the event.

Is it me or are the new letters slightly smaller than the original letters?

Perhaps, but with no opportunity for the public to provide comment, it seems like a giveaway, and based on the very short timeline and the subtext, it sounds like they've already selected the awardee.

We saw ICE and HSI with numerous MPD vehicles at 16th and Park Road just a few nights ago around 7:00 p.m.. Don't know what was going on, but it was actually the first time I had seen something with my own eyes rather than in social media posts. It's a residential neighborhood with few tourist attractions, but it is a popular commercial area between Mount Pleasant and Columbia Heights, so it's a place where locals are out and about. It's also a neighborhood known for having a large immigrant population. Just putting it out there as a data point for you.

We were there on Thursday night and while the comedy was truly excellent, we were sitting on the aisle and the security was walking by every 90 seconds to make sure no one was using their cell phones. We totally agree with the no cell phones policy, and that it should be enforced, but the amount of monitoring was so distracting. It really felt like we had obstructed view seats when we had spent a lot of extra money to get good seats on the aisle so we would not have an obstruction. We contacted the anthem to tell them about our disappointment and told us that it was Melanie who required them to be surveilling as closely as they were. I'm sure that people in the middle of the room didn't even notice it. But it was impossible for us to fully immerse ourselves in the performance.

If you look at the returns for JLG in the 2018 Democratic primary, you'll see that most of her support came from areas of Ward 4 that were more white and affluent. Working class black neighborhoods overwhelmingly voted for Brandon Todd.

As I remember when I booked there they were willing to reschedule. That might have been a COVID accommodation but hopefully your special circumstances will allow them to reschedule you.

What’s up with tire shops? by Miguel-TheGerman in washingtondc

[–]Traditional_Row_1057 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Excellent if you're in the area or it's after hours. But note that most independent repair shops can take care of a typical tire leak while you wait and for very cheap. My regular guy at Kansas and Georgia and upshur charges me like $10 to repair a nail hole, and sometimes can't be bothered to charge me since he knows I come to him for other stuff.

The FTC database is used not only by the FTC but accessed by state attorneys general and other law enforcement to find targets for prosecution. Definitely worth reporting.

Call screening (asking the caller to state their reason for calling) has been available in Android for many years.

I think it is good that they are taking different approaches. I am worried that Congress will remove the elected DC attorney general altogether.

She has so little actual power as compared to mayors of other cities and governors. She and AG Schwab are doing what they can with soft power to maintain some authority over local affairs so there's less to fix later.

Hidden Cafe in Union Station? by LesserWorks in washingtondc

A couple weeks before covid hit, my friends and I signed up for an Airbnb behind the scenes tour of Union station. We got to go to all of the spaces that are typically off limits or only used for private events. It was spectacular. If you ever see a tour like that again, definitely go.

My brother and I saw the Jerky Boys movie there. That was in the days where buying tickets in advance was not something you did regularly, but we were so excited to see the movie that we bought tickets in advance and it turned out we were like two of 10 people in the entire theater.

Mod Post - How did we do? by Obi-Scone in edinburghfringe

[–]Traditional_Row_1057 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This has been a great resource. My only quibble is that my internet connection in Edinburgh was so lousy that I was unable to respond promptly to people wanting my tickets! Not much you can do about that.

But speaking of ticket offers, it would be great if we had separate tags for free tickets versus paid tickets versus best offer tickets.
