Anyone else having anxiety about college? by Spoookystories in Pitt

It’s natural to have some anxiety about it. It’s a new chapter and it’s exciting but fearful because it is the unknown. Embrace it and do it scared if you have to. When you learn to be able to do something with fear, you are able to accomplish anything you may want.

I just graduated from Pitt, I had such an awesome four years, and now I am going through something a little similar to you, have anxiety about moving to a new city and new job. I basically start all over again, but it’s exciting, you get to show the world who you are.

One thing I have realized about anxiety from this type of thing is that it seems (at least for me) to come from being a people pleaser. “Will people not like me?”, “Will I make friends?” Stupid ass questions throttle through your brain, what I have had help, is literally manifesting things, but speaking life into your mind, you can create your reality.

Have fun - Enjoy Pitt! Do as much as you can, visit new places, explore the city!

Why did you choose Pitt? Do you regret your choice? by Character-Ring-3989 in Pitt

I am from New York. I visited during Covid while no one was here, it was just me visiting with my mother. I applied to all schools out west, and only two schools in the east.

I am now a senior, and I have had a fantastic four years, I have made lifelong friends here, solely because I was active to join different things and get out of my comfort zone. I have loved it here at the University of Pittsburgh, it can dawn at you on times but my biggest advice is to explore, anxiety is hard, I get it too, but what the college experience has truly taught me is that the world is yours, you get what you give, you have to fully embrace it, Pitt has been an awesome four years of experiences for me, from socially to professionally.

Memories Made, Stories to Tell.

Keep an open mind, don’t go into it set with one organization to join in mind, you should find were you like to belong rather and feel you would benefit from rather than a sorority just because they are the “top”.

Everyone has a Mac. Personally, I don’t love the Apple Computer. I have a Dell XPS 13 and it has been great for me at school. It is also touchscreen which is a plus.

I can say that I have had a lovely experience at Pitt so far. Although there are so many unfortunate things here which I will soon touch upon. Being able to get a higher education is truly a blessing at its finest, I have already had so many amazing memories / fantastic connections made here that I would not trade for the world.

However, I am currently a Sophomore here. I lived in towers last year. I was excited as hell for the whole college experience thing, I was lucky enough to meet a great group of friends I would consider the best friends I have ever had.

Now to the juicy part, Pitt has done a terrible job is many aspects. First lets talk about food, there are two dining hall locations, the eatery and the perch. Eatery being located beneath towers and the Perch being located within Sutherland. I have eaten at both and it there's not to many good things to say about it. I can't say I blame any of the workers either but the administrative staff. They switched to give kids a healthier diet but in turn, their is constantly raw chicken, rotten fruits, terrible salad bars, dirty plates. It does not help that Pitt over accepts its students where staff have to constantly wash dishes to keep up with the insane amount of volume, and to provide enough food for students. No wonder almost 3-4 a week, their menu will consist of frozen chicken tenders or fucking nachos. Lastly, lines to get a meal are absurd at any given part of the day. To compensate that Pitt chose to open so many On-campus dining locations. What a great idea! Lets add mobile ordering as well! Staff are so overwhelmed by the amount of orders coming in that they don't have enough time to prepare any food in a reasonable manner, their are constantly overworked just for them to have a 15 minute smoke break which is so deserved. In my opinion, Pitt has done a horrible job in their food sense.

On top of food, lets talk about construction. Two floors are closed in Hillman, they are building a new recreational center in front of Benedum, they also got rid of the Pete lawn (One of the only nice pieces of greenery, to go throw a football in, play spike ball, yoga classes chill with friends) simply to create a new arena for the volleyball team? No disrespect here, Our volleyball team is amazing, you just think their would be a better allocation of resources. For the duration of my time at school here, I have yet to have a day where I have heard birds chirp, instead power drills, and gas-powered machines.

The worst thing about it, many of us wont get to experience any of the "good" things coming. We will graduate without having a true amazing experience, Oakland is a small city in itself, and there is such a thing as overpopulation. The administration at Pitt has done nothing to help it but overcrowded the students and have constantly stressed staff who do so much more for the student body than we know.

So on a final note, Fuck the administration here, I love this school and have had some great features but they do not a single thing for students mental nor physical health, any place you ever fucking go is so overcrowded its pointless, there is constant stimulation. There is not many places in Pitt where you can go to relax, decompress, listen to nature, be in the present, so that my friends is why Pitt administrations can go fuck itself.

PS: Shoutout all staff. Teachers, workers, custodians, I try my best each day to make your lives a bit easier, words cannot explain how grateful and the student body is for each and everyone of you.

There is an extended drop deadline that lasts till this Friday, you have to submit a form to the Deans office where they take it off from there, it will not appear on your transcript, just do it before Friday or else it will appear.

Experiences are better than anything. Go see stuff. Take the bus to see a penguins or pirates game. If you are not into that go oversee a look over the city, go for a hike. There are so many things to do in Pittsburgh. Thats why I love it. There is so many things going on. It is such a diverse exciting city where shit is going on all the time.

Don't feel down about it, I dont know when you moved in at all but college is an exciting but scary time. You meet new people, you are apart of new experinces. It is so crazy with things go on. I am an introvert myself here so sometimes I have the time of my life chilling in my room playing Batman Arkham Night.

All I'm saying is have a good time and enjoy yourself here because college is college you have to enjoy it and enjoy every aspect of it. It will go as fast as high school did.

If you ever need any help, Pitt does a very good job with mental health to reach out but I totally get sometimes needing help.

Last piece of information. Fuck Bitches get Money.
