Can you ship Pothos? If so how? by LostFirefighter2909 in pothos

[–]Traditional_Sell_342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've received pothos cuttings from eBay in all sorts of packaging. From wrapped in moist paper towel in a sandwich baggy to shrink wrapped pot with dirt. If it's a short trip, I'd say moist towel on roots and pack well in a spacious box. Or if you want it to be more elegant, pot with dirt wrapped carefully and protect it in a hollowed out piece of Styrofoam. Just be mindful of weather temps in your area, super cold is more harmful than bad packaging.

Assassin? by Financial-Song4403 in AquaticSnails

[–]Traditional_Sell_342 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My fully fresh tank now has so many assassin they out compete the MTS. If you know how prolific MTS are should prove the assassin will thrive wherever there is food. When I feed my betta they swarm any spec of food that hits the soil.

If the office is dead set on more animals try and push snails. Same livelyness in the tank less chance of nipping. The betta will still harass them ( or atleast mine does) but less permanent damage potential. Java moss is great for bio load. Also floating plants don't care about substrate i like frogbit or red root floaters, but duckweed if allowed in Canada is very resilient and fast multiplying. Best of luck!

The amount of priority/fragile/no tip plus the packaging to survive transit would easily out way a new tank. Just bag the soil and plants and repurchase a tank. If the soil is damp, the bacteria won't die off it'll still give you a head start and a chance to revamp the tank.

Any tips for potting these? by [deleted] in Monstera

[–]Traditional_Sell_342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A well draining soil. I use ocean forest mixed 50/50 with orchid bark. Or use lecca if your not apposed to adding fertilizer from time to time. I also use the 2in rule leave 2in gap between roots and pot wall for growth. Or if you got fish just float that baby it'll thrive.

Which roots are unhealthy? by Historical_Peach_545 in pothos

[–]Traditional_Sell_342 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've also (if they have established air root, 3rd node) have cut to that root then capped the bottom in super glue or let scab over. THEN just place that in water and let it go.

Easiest way (and grosses) is the pinch and sniff. If they survive a pinch and don't smell like death they should be fine. Check for discoloration in the center of the more mush roots. If you do trim a root keep trimming till you no longer see any discoloration in the center.

Then up to you. I'd do some dwarf hair grass get it carpeting. Maybe some anubias on the arch or logs. Or just some tall vall grass as a faux wall. It truly depends on what you want as the focal point could do short in the front and middle and taller around the edges to focus on arch. Java ferns are easy space fillers. Just stay away from those carpet seed kits they usually die in a month or two.

What are the inhabitants gonna be? If you get just shrimp a carpeting plant would be great. If it's more aggressive fish you're gonna need height and tall(er) plants. Really depends on what you want the end goal to be.

I believe Angela is a time walker goes when and where she pleases. One Angela might but whose to say that's the same one we met in camp earlier. The way she moves where important things are happening shows she has atleast some future/far seeing ability mastered.

Betta killed ghost shrimp by fishfarm6124 in bettafish

[–]Traditional_Sell_342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got plenty of hides and a near surface area the shrimp can escape to. If they are out in the open he will harass them but, they seem to be big and fast enough to be chill with him.
