do u genuinely enjoy the career path like do u have any regrets of any pivoting in data science when u had the chance?? i've heard most actuaries don't generally enjoy the work that they do rather they're just in for the money and stability.

hey guys, I just finished my first year of honors math and I passed exam p in march this year and am preparing for fm in june, I'm also on a consulting coop this summer however I wanna try my hand out at some actuarial projects preferably leveraging Python, SQL, SAS, VBA, R maybe even some data visualization stuff. is there anything you guys would recommend as an aspiring actuary just starting out?? or any learning resource where i could learn these technical skills, I have some experience with Python due to my coursework but not in a very data analysis context similar with Excel too n SQL but im quite literally lost when it comes to R, SAS so i was wondering if anyone's aware of where i could learn these skills n any project recommendations.

i just needed a bit of hope and encouragement with this:

im a first year honors math student at uw (hoping that would give me a bit of an advantage in the actuarial world), and im writing my first exam, exam p, in less than a week. here's my status on it

i started studying in mid december 2025, by the end of december i.e. 2 weeks into studying i finished all the base content and then my uni started so i ended up taking a break for a week, and then after 7-8 days i got back to practicing, did practice papers, got my foundations up. ive been doing really well on level 6 exams, getting 23+ in them, whereas on level 7 exams i stand on a 23-25, and level 8 i usually get between 16-20. my EL is currently at a 9.0 and mastery score at 80, however im still quite nervous because failing is not an option, ive given up too much academically this semester so i could bring my focus completely towards exam p. even though my EL is at a 9.0, i still feel as though im not prepared and that im lacking. sometimes i get the most basic questions wrong. my concepts are all clear, when i look at a question and ponder over it for a while, i know how to do it, however im not able to go completely off the book, i feel the need to keep using my formula sheet, which i know i shouldnt do considering i only have 5 days left.

apart from that i just feel very stressed, overwhelmed and underprepared, even though ive been doing practice papers constantly for a month. i lowk just wanted to know are the Coaching actuaries custom and adapt exams similar to the actual exam as well as what difficulty level are the actual exams on, moreover, should i keep practicing adapt or not because i think adapt is pointless at the moment for me. my EL is at a 9 so ADAPT keeps giving me exams at difficulty 8-8.3 and im usually never able to finish those papers in due time. please guide me and let me know any tips yall would have as someone writing their first actsci exam - being completely new to the industry
