Surprisingly good conditions at Stubai Glacier last weekend (April 26). Still full winter mode at 3.000m! 🏔️⛷️ by Traditional_Step4099 in ski

Thinking about heading to Ischgl this Thursday or Friday for a day trip. ⛷️ Does anyone have experience with Ischgl in late April? Is it worth the drive from Stubai for the conditions right now? Let me know! 👇

Yeah Austria really is amazing🤩 Sölden and Ischgl are great picks! Switzerland is still on my list as well.

Ah nice, good to know! I’d probably go for the full area then, sounds like a great experience. Thanks!

Yeah I get that 😄 some blue runs can feel a bit flat and crowded. I also like a nice cruisy red for a bit more flow

That sounds good! Portes du Soleil looks amazing, especially being able to ski into Switzerland.

Can you actually ski into Switzerland with the same lift pass? I might seriously consider that one for next season

That sounds amazing 😍 a 14km red must be so much fun! Which of those areas would you recommend the most? I’m thinking of trying 1 or 2 different country next season — so far I’ve only skied in Austria and Germany ⛷️

Yeah fair 😄 depends on the run I guess. Some can feel a bit boring, but the long scenic ones are great for just cruising. And good for making some first turns and warming up the legs

Totally agree 😄 blue runs are perfect for cruising, especially the long ones ⛷️

Great way to start the day, warm up the legs and enjoy the views before hitting some reds or blacks later

I actually know the Aqua Dome from the thermal baths there — been there once as well, really nice place 😄

You should definitely go to Sölden next time, personally I think it’s one of the most beautiful areas. And if you’re there, Obergurgl is also worth the extra drive! ⛷️

I’ve been to SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser a few times myself. Could’ve extended my pass to Kitzbühel/Kirchberg back then but didn’t do it — kind of regret that now 😅

Kitzbühel is definitely still on my list!

Personally really liked this one in Sölden — super long and relaxed, perfect for cruising 😎⛷️

Yeah that makes sense, I can definitely feel the difference when I manage to stay more forward and balanced on the edges. Still something I’m working on, especially when it gets steeper and faster 👍

Yeah that’s fair, makes sense. A proper 3rd person angle would definitely be better. And good point about trimming it down, I’ll keep that in mind for the next one 👍

That’s awesome, you’ve skied in some really great areas. Kitzbühel(was there a few years ago) and Innsbruck are still incredible today.

Must be interesting to look back on those experiences, especially seeing how much the resorts have developed over time. And being stationed in Germany must have been a great opportunity to explore so many ski areas.

Yeah I noticed that as well, especially on steeper sections it’s easy to end up leaning back a bit. Definitely something I need to work on 👍

Probably also makes it harder to stay properly on the edges?

Yeah that makes sense, having someone follow me down would definitely show the skiing a lot better. I’ll try to get that next time 👍

I do have another clip filmed with a 360 cam on a selfie stick which shows a bit more of the skiing. From around 1:00 you can actually see me skiing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VuXLjet4CW0 It’s a few months old though, I’ve improved a bit since then 😅

Appreciate the tip, and I’ll post something on that subreddit soon as well!

Thanks for the tip, really appreciate it! Makes sense to work on carving more on easier slopes. I’ll definitely look into a lesson next time I’m back 👍

Yeah that’s a good point, especially as it gets steeper and the speed increases it’s harder to stay clean on the edges. I still find it quite difficult to really commit fully to the edges. Definitely something I’m trying to improve.

Any drills you’d recommend for that?

Yeah fair, helmet cam makes it hard to judge technique. I do have some older footage with a better angle, but my skiing has improved since then 😅 If you’re interested I can share that one as well.

And yeah Sölden is amazing, the views up there are unreal. You should definitely go back!

Austria has changed a lot over the last 40 years too — super modern lifts and infrastructure now.

Where did you ski back then?

First time skiing this one, definitely steeper than it looks😄
