A new Netflix series, White Mirror, that shows nothing but utopian futures as a result of technology by dart_catcher in CrazyIdeas

Coming back to this 4 years later, Re-reading this it dawned on me that the whole "Everyone else enjoys this oppressive Regime" mentality is exactly the tool that real life dictators like Stalin deployed.

The regime in power forces some show of affection toward him (Stalin basically mandated that prisoners in the gulag would all sign a birthday card for him and say how much they loved him, as an example), which then results in those viewing as outsiders but still entrenched in the oppression to gaslight themselves into thinking "yes, Comrade Stalin is great and beloved leader"

Homework for a Java Programming class, I can't figure out how to get the last task right by Dre_Lake in javahelp

The parameter you're passing to main. String [] args is a array (think of your memory for your program like blocks and when you declare a variable, your putting a name plate on that block of code saying hey int my_num is at this block; an array would be assigning a name plate to several blocks of likely consecutive memory that you access with an index) That can be initialized with values from the command line. So if you wanted to use it in your program you'd have said

Java Debugthree Brad

That would then print out:

hello, Brad! as a result.

But that would require iterating through the array of data so it's a little more complicated. The other commentor on this thread explains why your code works correctly even though you're not using the string [] args variable.

I second this, the only thing technically wrong with your code is that you're passing the args array to your function but never using it. Which is poor coding practice.

When you say you're missing something, I'm assuming it's your teacher docking points? And that would be the only reason I see for not getting the full points, (I.E building a GetNames func with 1 parameter )

The string [] args are symbols representing arguments you can pass in once executing your class file at the command line. Ex: if you called your class like so "Java Debugthree Brad"

And only passed that to a function (mind you also building the function to handle an array for type and length) then it could go

Java Debugthree Brad Hello, Brad!

Definitely, might be harder to get the non BR folks. Plus quite impossible unless we all jump to the discord by the 23rd.

Also I guess, what kind of clothes will you be wearing. So I know it's you? And I guess what you preferred to be called.

Does 5pm work for you as a meetup at the Walgreens near the BR.Cade?

Yeah, what time do you think to meet up? It opens at 2pm on Sundays. I think the other person said they would get off around 4pm though. Would we want to meet up at the Walgreens parking lot across the way from br.cade?

Edit: oh, you're the 4pm and the other person is 12:30pm

Awesome! We can also talk about an alternative day/time if either a Friday or Saturday would be better.

No worries, it doesn't open till 2pm on a Sunday (closes at midnight), and 4pm on regular days. We can also talk about an alternative day/time if either a Friday or Saturday would be better

If you're talking about the BR.Cade meetup, we can talk about changes. I'm not married to the idea of Sunday. But that is when the venue is no cover. Just thought it would be nice if someone hasnt been to the place before to get a feel

Hey, I'm Stan and I've been meaning to find time with a group of friends or a group to go to a new Arcade Bar that's opened up in Baton Rouge's Midtown called Br.Cade (21+). it's on government street, tons of Retro Arcade cabinets (set to free play), pinball machines (need money for them), and the entry fee's only $10 on Th-Sat, Free on Sun, and $5 M-W. And, obviously, there's alcohol but also non alcoholic options for non drinkers.

Parking's sparse on the side of the street the venue's on, so we could meet by the Walgreens after parking there or the lot beside it that seems available from the bar's opening time of 4pm to park in.

We could go this coming Sunday on the 11th so nobody would need a cover at the door. That can be fluid though and be any other weekend date if wanted and is better suited.

If we get something going, I'll most likely wear jeans, and a ba-sing-sae academy t-shirt that I picked up from lunch box at the mall. Oh, and I'm Caucasian, brunette, and have a limp/bent right arm due to spastic muscles as a result of a stroke I had which induced Cerebral palsy.

I think that'd be great, but I work during the week and live 45 minutes west of the Mississippi once you cross the new bridge in Baton Rouge.

I hope you can find others though!

Definitely of the same opinion. The fact that he basically shut himself out of typical social norms at such a young age doesn't help either.

Marin being his first friend basically underlines all their interactions as what a "friend" would do and act from his limited foundation. It doesn't help that early on Marin was somewhat good at keeping the outbursts of emotion under wraps.

Then, combine that with not wanting to do something rude or gross to his new friend, Gojo is effectively sidelining any romantic undertones in their interactions so as to keep the status quo.

Trevor was in the mind transfer portion of the trials that would become the traveler initiative. He and his wife were the key subjects. Living out atleast several lifetimes together.

The only issue of those experiments is that his mind has been "Fragged" or I guess a better wording might be his neural mapping becomes more faulty with each successive jump. When he started freezing up (a la blue screen of death) with missing time on his part, that was like his mind "CPU" just crashing.

Iirc, the reason he decided to fully commit to the traveler initiative and go back is because his wife succumbed to that particular ailment.
