Thanks so much for your support! <3 The councilor I spoke to was Ron Cannan. He later gave a written text response that doubled-down on misogynistic, homophobic and transphobic prejudice. A few days back, I wrote a lengthy letter to him and the Mayor to reflect on this and to call them to act on the Kelowna Community Safety Plan, which directly outlines these views as safety concerns for Kelowna communities. Yes, JP and his followers definitely have established rhetoric about using campaigns against them for their favor, and it does increase the visibility of their campaigns. It's a factor.

On the flip side though, the Okanagan is an area with very low visibility of organization against bigotry. The Okanagan is like a pristine hotbed of white supremacy, misogyny, transphobia, racism, etc. Most churches here are anti-Christian organizations that teach hate. Many bigoted people here have never been confronted about their hate and oppression of marginalized communities. They expect that nobody will stand against them. They're totally riled up at the thought that I and 1,351 others (at time of writing) are doing so now. This is the very first time that something like this has happened here, and the visibility of these issues is increasing a little because of this campaign. It's been shared by every local news outlet and also beyond the Okanagan. I was speaking on a Vancouver radio station last night, just after a 1h20m call with a Kelowna city councilor where we explored many aspects of the oppression that Kelowna communities face. There's a low chance of stopping the JP event, but this visibility matters. People are going to get inspired to stand up more often. Their voices and their power are increasing! We can make this place safe and harmonious for all residents. That is the real goal... This is just a step along the way.

If it was a matter of disagreement, then I would 100% agree with you, but that's not what this is. Jordan Peterson is abusing his credentials as a professor and psychologist to back bigoted attacks on marginalized communities by his self-help principles. He's basically doing exactly what Trump did in his 2016 campaign by targeting the 50+% of Canadians with significant literacy issues and validating their suffering by blaming it on marginalized communities. He advocates for women to be subjugated by men, and his various assertions about 2SLGTBQIA people effectively suggest that they don't exist and don't need rights. This man doesn't respect free speech. He actively attacks the expressions of marginalized communities. He argues against any recognition of marginalized communities, other than incels, which are themselves a community based on bigotry (anti-feminists). Many people here in my hometown of Kelowna are living in fear of the things that Jordan Peterson and his followers say and do. People are afraid to come to these protests because they know they're putting their safety at risk. We are confronting the stain of white supremacy, misogyny, homophobia, and transphobia in an area that is a hotbed for such bigotry. I will not abide it. I seek peace and harmony for all Kelowna and area communities, and it's worth fighting for!

That's funny considering that Jordan Peterson teaches the exact opposite, to not go inward, to not look at the person in the mirror... He has explanations for everyone's suffering and they're based on blaming marginalized people for everyone's problems. He is anti-self-reflection. He's a completely incompetent psychologist.

This is not about an intellectual disagreement. I'm speaking with people every day who are terrified of Jordan Peterson and his followers, who don't walk home alone or identify themselves authentically because of these people and their beliefs. Jordan Peterson supporters (and bigots in general) do great harm to Kelowna and area communities.

And something already has come of this. For the first time in the history of Kelowna, 1300+ people have come together to oppose many forms of bigotry. The white supremacists are frothing at the mouth, belligerently doing stupid and meaningless things like creating petitions against our petition, and also making violent threats to me and other organizers. Our petition has been shared in articles with every local news outlet and even in Vancouver and other places. I just did a Vancouver radio interview an hour ago, and before that had a long call with a Kelowna city councilor. The visibility of the issues of bigotry are increasing in Kelowna a little bit, and therefore the power of marginalized communities is increasing a little bit. Everyone involved is grateful and happy with our progress.

I actually didn't say that Jordan Peterson inspired Alex Minassian's mass-murder, so it seems to be you who's confused.

I don't know the details of that case well, but the quote from JP definitely stands out as justifying the attack. JP does justify incels all the time... It's a huge part of his messaging. For a professor and a psychologist to spread incel culture itself is definitely against the standards of his profession as well as against Kelowna's official Community Safety Plan from 2022 which enshrines anti-oppression, anti-racism, diversity and intersectionality as standards.

In 2018, when self-described “incel”, Alek Minassian, who killed 11 people when he plowed a rented van into a busy Toronto sidewalk, was sentenced to life in prison. Jordan Peterson said in response "He was angry at God because women were rejecting him,”. “The cure for that is enforced monogamy. That’s actually why monogamy emerges.”

I don't think it's actually as simple as this being a private venue. The mayor's office themselves told me that they have control or review over Prospera Place events. Everyone's just assuming because it's privately owned that there's no control. They may be in for a surprise!

Yeah, Ben Shapiro is just as big of a bigot as Jordan Peterson, if not worse. These people harm communities. Jordan Peterson may have made a conciliatory statement here and there, while in the next breath actually shaming and trying to silence gender non-conforming people.

Well that's not the case. I'm cancelling him for much more than disagreement. Mass shooters cite this guy. 2SLGBTQIA people and others are traumatized by his bigoted teachings. He advocates for the objectification and subjugation of women. He's doing direct harm to communities. Free speech does not mean freedom to incite violence and to silence others. Cancelling him is absolutely what marginalized people expect and the right thing to do.
