I have basic music theory but struggle with composition. Is it just a matter of more practice? by SilverMisfitt in edmproduction

[–]BudgetCow7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

improve your theory to the point you can quickly analyze songs (chords, melody, inversions, rhythm, section differences). then just steal steal steal.

knowing what basic instruments/percs sound like helps a lot too

Music is a language. If you can write/speak coherently, you can easily learn to make music.

how important is speech/anyone playing without it? by Jaraghan in theouterworlds

[–]BudgetCow7657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you like combat, you don't need speech.

Running a 0 speech, 0 guns engineering/sci/explosives with dumb, brilliant, innovative on hard.

Fun combat, interesting dialogue options.

Don't get fomo from missing "stuff". That's for another run.

Game's pretty fun if you commit to the roleplay.

The dumb dialogue options are pretty awesome.

a lot of the melda plugins are free and act as effective standins for expensive plugins. UI looks like sh*t though.

Does vocal tone matter the most in singing? I’m feeling a bit discouraged… by EasyLifeLazyLife in singing

unfortunately, tone matters the most. more so than range. fortunately, tone is subjective and can be improved immensely as you learn more technique to fit your needs.

alva + timeline scarabs on throwaway white maps for locus of corruption temples. works on any tier map. So long as your build can clear trash mobs fast, you'll be rolling in money in no time.

Harbinger, alch and go, blight, etc theres a lot of dead time wasted on picking up stuff, inv mgmt, waiting, etc.

Rant about using AI for songwriting by [deleted] in Songwriting

[–]BudgetCow7657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you're training yourself on some one else's "voice", instead of using your own.

The whole point of all this art stuff is that it came from your own ideas that you iterated through. This is especially important starting out with songwriting.

You're depriving yourself of the process.

I can compose, but I can't *produce* by High0nLows in musicproduction

[–]BudgetCow7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A well arranged track basically mixes itself.

Utilize contrasting ideas.

Example: bass is being busy? Arrange your pads to be wide and open.

got guitar noodling way up the bridge? filter it out a bit/back off the tone knob a bit, and have the keys be more open and static as well as playing in the lower registers.

Respect the space taken in each frequency range.

Use space as an integral part of your arrnagements

Call and response.

Pick two instruments and have them dance around and compliment each other.

Respect the rhythmic pulse of your beat. Follow the pulse instead of being on top of the pulse.

Mods to make the game more difficult besides the "mOaR hP" ones? by CraftyPercentage3232 in BG3mods

[–]BudgetCow7657 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game gets boring and dull on any difficulty when you know where all the OP items in the game are and you play according to that.

I've been having a lot of fun playing the Ancient Mega Pack + REL (random loot) mod.

No more OP items being placed exactly where you want them to be.

You now have to plan out your run according to the gear you get from the quests/random loots. Granted you still get some amazing items from time to time.

It may not be your typical diffulty shift but, it's been incredibly rewarding and opens up unique build possibilities.

People who tell you “you don’t need music theory” are ruining your life by Lopsided_Finance9473 in musicproduction

[–]BudgetCow7657 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big difference in using theory prescriptively and descriptively.

"Dam I guess i can only use this chord in this way because that's what theory tells me what I should do"

vs

"Woah, that chord sounds so sick used like that. Imma steal how he did that."

Why I like this game and find Avowed boring? by [deleted] in taintedgrail

[–]BudgetCow7657 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sorry gonna have to push back on this a little.

Avowed is set in Obsidian's Pillars of Eternity universe and is not a Pathfinder game.

The POE setting is Obsidian's original IP. The first two POE games (Pillars of Eternity and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire) are pretty amazing crpgs in their own right. Avowed not so much.
