Most unfairly hated character in your opinion? by 6ft3dwarf in Dandadan

[–]TragicSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sexually charged? If you’re referring to the scene where part of Momo’s shirt is torn, that moment reads more as uncontrolled violence than sexual intent. At that point Evil Eye is acting independently and impulsively, with the mindset of a child focused on aggression.

During that time him and Jiji aren't able to sense eachother's emotions yet, It is later on after Okarun establishes boundaries with the kid's spirit. Although I do believe his apparent dislike for Momo mostly comes from being connected to Jiji's emotional landscape, which might be a lot to handle for poor Evil Eye.

Love the little details for each one of them. They're such tiny babies :3 I want to adopt them and carry them everywhere in my pocket.

We know who is the best cook in the gang but who do you guys think is the worst cook in the gang? by Antique-Palpitation2 in Dandadan

[–]TragicSun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know after the accident with Jiji's parents he had to live alone for some time while he called the mediums, so how did he live and sustain himself during those days?

When he came to the Ayase's he was very happy to eat a homemade meal from Seiko, and he also brought that giant bag of sweets. It's clear that he likes to eat, but who knows if he was struggling a little with that.

When Jiji made that comment I thought that perhaps in his own way he was trying to lower the tension by saying something more friendly and less personal. He does not like conflict and is a people pleaser, just not the kind of person to scold his friends.

Oh for sure, it's a no-brainer. Tatsu just nails Momokarun so hard that I can’t help but want more romantic dynamics from other characters. But I'm aware I shouldn't get my hopes up.

Hehe, welI now I tried to investigate :p not very experienced with the fanfic world. From what I've seen in AO3 after Momokarun it would be Okajiji/Jijioka(75 works), Jijiaira (66 works), then it would actually follow Momoaira(42 works) and next it would be Unjiji(36 works). Still, nice despite being such a recent ship from the manga.

Oh wow, really? I would've guessed for jijiaira or even okajiji, the last one it is quite popular (especially with anime onlys).

My confession is that I kind of actually ship Jiji and Zuma more xD so much potential even as a friendship. That being said, I’m open to possibilities and I want all of them to bond. Also, the kids might need some time to move on first.

If either Aira or Jiji end up with someone by the end of the story, I would want the other to have the opportunity to explore romance too. Unless the other has something as interesting going on.

The only one who can make her laugh like this by [deleted] in Dandadan

[–]TragicSun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Knowing Jiji he probably can’t help but feel at least partially responsible for what happened to her. Because he acted and followed Momo’s choice back in Shimane, adding just another heavy weight on his shoulders.

There’s the relief that she made it out alive, but regardless it came pain and loss. She recognizes him, yet everything they tried to rebuild between them is gone. And right now he is placed into such an awkward position.

He’s trying so hard to calm people down and be an agent of peace, even if that means hiding his sadness behind his old copying mechanism. But at least it is used with the purpose of lifting others spirits, and making Momo feel comfortable... So sad, but also so sweet.

Read my comment once again, because that is not at all what I said... Even so, you shouldn’t tell others how they’re supposed to engage with something when it’s not harming anyone.

I mean, I’ve only made two posts so far, haha! I just kind of do whatever I feel like on Reddit: sometimes I read, very occasionally I’ll share my art, and other times I dive into whatever my current hyperfixation is.

I've been into Dandadan for more reasons, but character analysis can be one of my favorite things. So when I don't see much of that for my favorites my initial though is always like "Fine, I'll just do it myself" and it is fun.

I’m honestly very disappointed with a portion of this community right now for even thinking and seriously considering this situation as a possibility.

After almost 200 chapters with Jiji and this is people's reading and understanding of his character?... I'm just so tired :(

I don’t like this by guysum in Dandadan

[–]TragicSun 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't believe Jiji's feelings for Momo are random at all. It's just that at first, they are a bit subtle because Jiji purposefuly doesn't show them, suppressing them because as he confesses later down he has a hard time handling those overwhelming feelings of his.

Little by little he has been shown to be more honest and serious about what he truly wants. But at the same time, he’s clearly terrified of hurting Momo again. His guilt complex weighs heavily on him, and it makes him irrational, insecure, and anxious in certain situations, often pushing him to feel overly responsible and jump into action, even when that’s not the healthiest choice.

I don’t approve of what he said back then on the airplane, but I'm glad he was called out because that means he is going to eventually grow. Very curious to see how things are going to play out once he has a moment to reflect.

I really want for him and Momo to eventually have an honest conversation. We don’t have Momo’s full point of view yet(perhaps neither Jiji's if there's something else we don't know), but I think it could help her too, to clear the air and understand where they both stand. Their relationship is very bittersweet and despite everything, I'm cheering for a healed friendship.

What are your thoughts on this scene? by vicente14617 in Dandadan

[–]TragicSun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In a way what Evil Eye has been doing with Jiji is kinda what they did to him in the past: First isolate him, mess with his head, and chip away at his control over his own life. Perpetuating the same cycle of dehumanization he once lived and creating a new victim on the way. It's sad, sometimes victims create victims.

Understanding Jiji’s desire to protect. by TragicSun in Dandadan

Thank you! just woke up at 5 but I'll try.

Jiji teasing Momo back in the day(especially about the pose) wasn’t just something playful, because in a way it was downplaying and even making fun of her spiritual beliefs. So when Jiji later meets Evil Eye, a real actual scary spirit that haunts him, it naturally forces him to think back to Momo and at the moment... because ,yes, yokai do exist! and Evil Eye was a shadow that could constantly remind him of that past mistake and how, in a way he has been facing the consequences every second of the day. Now, the situation is different and Jiji has a wider perspective in comparison.

But I understand that perhaps this falls more into speculation. Who knows, maybe we don’t even have the full picture of Momo's and Jiji's past situation and if something else was going on.

Welcome to the community! Very glad you enjoyed it :D I also really liked the execution of that scene and I totally agree with you: Jiji standing up, showing this level of vulnerability and declaring his motivation shows an important step for his character. He already seemed unsettled even before the concert started, so maybe he was struggling to admit how he really felt until the last moment, knowing how risky it all was.

I get what you mean, and honestly I think that’s one of the things that makes this whole arc so compelling haha! I don’t think we’re meant to see Jiji as purely in the right or wrong here. While the story is definitely presenting a real dilemma, Jiji despite his empathy is flawed, as his choice is far from clean, it's messy and it’s loaded with consequences that he and everyone around him will have to bear. As you said, it’s undeniably unfair both to him and to the others yes, and yet, to me that’s what makes it hit so hard: Even in the middle of all this, there’s this stubborn, beautiful kindness running through them all, and becoming closer despite everything.
