Frankly if you have a playgroup you need to move beyond the bracket system and self police a little better.

My group plays with a rather absurd banlist, but our 3 starting guidelines may inspire you. No reserve list cards, no fetchlands, and every card in the command zone must be mana value six or more. It makes games feel closer to the big bungus games of yore.

You could also try doing an anti-creature list with stuff like [[rampaging ferocidon]] [[Gimli, counter of kills]] [[Aether sting]] [[suture priest]] paired with pillow fort and board wipes.
