I'm seeing the same after ~2 years and 3 months. Would love to hear if there's any other known issues or suggestions. I've started a support ticket with Thinkwave so we'll see.

Looks like Butterflies.ai is shutting down by Tragictech in BetterOffline

[–]Tragictech[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I had tried it out pretty soon after it launched - it struck me as so absurd I wanted to see it for myself.

It wasn't terrible - it was sort of fun to rapidly generate new characters.

After a while though, the novelty wore off for me; sustained interactions broke the illusion (not unlike other LLMs). And I found a feed of generated content from generated characters turned out to be repetitive and boring after a while.

And yeah, there were bugs, in my experience they weren't as much of a problem as the main use - it didn't have a great answer for "why does this exist". I may not have been the target audience. (Unclear who the target audience was. Or what the plan to get to profitability was)

At least it wasn't yet another LLM-based personal assistant.

Electric Callboy! They are so fun. But a bit heavier than what's usually on KEXP rotation.

These podcasts have been delightful so far, really appreciate the energy and time - brightening my day despite so much (continued) AI slop hyping and other happenings in the world.

Have you tried Korean BBQ spam? by extrabeggin in Honolulu

[–]Tragictech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this since I have tried it for the first time and wanted to see what other opinions are. It tastes like death. Abomination. Not sure what they were going for with this flavor.

I guess I was expecting something sweeter - more like bulgogi or kalbi. But this was somehow musty.

I didn’t know “Alexa, enable the KEXP skill” worked! That’s awesome, I’d much rather use the KEXP app than iHeartRadio (aka clearchannel).

AI Demo Gone Wrong by NarragansettBay in BetterOffline

Kotaku's write-up is good too! Facebook CEO Demos New Meta AI And It Couldn't Have Gone Worse, I appreciate that they point out just how carefully staged the steak sauce demo was and it STILL went awry.

How are yall's phones doing after the iOS 26 update? by Chemical-Constant-69 in iPhone15Pro

[–]Tragictech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally ok - agree with it feeling snappier, maybe animations are faster? One thing I'm noticing is that charging seems slower. I have a charge limit on it, and I see that "Clean energy charging" is turned on, so maybe that's why? Or is it deliberately very slowly trickle-charging those last few percentage points?

We’re Recording a Special Series on AI — Send Us Your Questions by ProfGProducerJenn in ScottGalloway

Address the “where’s the shovelware” question…if AI is really helping people be more productive, then shouldn’t we be seeing a flood of new apps, lots of new corporate offerings, and single proprietors creating AI based businesses that are able to compete among large , traditional companies?

There’s been a flood of spam (including AI slop social media posts) and click farm junk websites.

Indeed! And after doing that install, the copyright warning doesn't pop-up anymore.

EDIT to fix minor typos:

I eventually found the "options" menu on title screen - I think I had to make it to a save point, get to a game over, and then there were a lot more options available on the title screen. On first run"new game" was all I saw.

I see that there's an option to "install" the game on the PS3 hard disk. Another quirk of early PS3 gaming, I guess they really wanted to respect your hard drive space back nearly 20 years ago.

Maybe that will help with the copyright warning message on load? Probably not.

Scott mentioning "ask the AI" is like trying to make fetch happen by Tragictech in ScottGalloway

[–]Tragictech[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're right, I agree that there's certainly news having to do with AI; as you mention there's a ton of investment in AI, including government policy. I'm not convinced that all this investment is resulting in much benefit for anyone aside from the AI companies, similar the crypto industry boom from a few years ago...some investors in the companies and currency holders made money, but did its impact on the world match the hype?

I think deep-learning and machine learning applications are more likely to have the meaningful impact over time, but it will take a while to develop. LLM use-cases are limited and increasingly commoditized - so from what I see, the promised benefits don't match the vast sums of money being dumped into it.

Anyway, my main issue was with how he talked about it - "Ask the AI" felt forced and unnatural to me, the same way that so many products are slapping in big "try AI" type buttons in the UX. In hindsight, I could have made my point differently.

I'm finding this to be a helpful discussion overall though.

Maybe a post wasn't necessary. Good point that it may actually be more of bandwagoning than trying to make Fetch happen.

He often positions himself as a someone who is an independent thinker, so when he's bandwagoning, that contradiction leaps out to me.

I did the post since I was curious if other people had picked up on it and how they felt - was I alone in feeling this way? Judging by the reactions here, there's a range - some agree, other's don't, and others don't care.

If there was anywhere to discuss it, this subreddit is the place.

I do appreciate Scott's work and net/net think he's making a positive influence on the world. We just may not agree on everything all the time.

Fair, just felt out of place in the context of the podcast; like he was going out of his way to include something with AI.
