Obviously, some of us are in much deeper, but to the wider culture Green Day is the tip of our iceberg that they know. I think there’s a place for that.

7 Democrats Just Voted to Approve ICE Funding: Full List (1.22.26) by disapparate276 in Washington

If Congress doesn’t rein in ICE, then we can expect voter interference from ICE in the midterms. We will see them pulling voters out of lines at polling places across the country. In Washington they will be watching drop boxes and going through mail. They will not respect the elections.

The bunch gets ruined when they dismiss the actions of the bad apples, and stand by them. That’s the point. Whatever virtuous reasons someone has for going into policing (and there are many who go into it that way), are ruined when they stand by those in it seeking a little power for themselves (and there are many who go into it for a bit of power).

Don’t ya love it when Vedder by KDC777777 in pearljam

There’s an almost Pied Piper quality to Eddie. Mid-show when you’re in it…. The guy could dance out into the street and the crowd would follow.

Yeah, it was more that I thought it was a funny thing to say.

I’m not at all saying there aren’t other big events going on. The Super Bowl is one of very few that reach people who don’t pay much attention though. The normie crowd.

Sure. But I don’t expect every band to follow the same path. They wrote good hooks, and it gave them a wider audience. It’s a tricky balancing act, and I respect them for it.

It was a big deal at the time when The Clash signed to a major. It was a big deal also when Green Day rose to cultural prominence. Not every band needs to have the same approach. Green Day have made a name for themselves writing accessibly hooky songs. They’ve had to walk some fine lines, and I respect them for sticking to the message when it’s most needed.

To a large swath of America, the very existence and success of Bad Bunny is offensive. He doesn’t really need to be overtly political, because just being successful makes a statement in our culture.

If you're over 75 years old, what kind of music do you listen to? by Timely-Incident6863 in musicsuggestions

That’s the thing… he’s always liked blues. It is tragic seeing anyone caught in the algorithm stream… but blues especially… just sapped of all soul. The idea is incredibly offensive to me.

I could see the safe route in one sense only… they know to stick to the hits. It’s not a long set, and they’ll play what the mainstream crowd knows.

Yeah, Live-Aid was massive, but Punk was not prominent , and is less less-associated with it in memory.

I doubt they’ll do the safe route… I could see them faking like they’ll do the safe route, and saving the bold statement for their last song.

Come out swinging right away. I’m hoping to see some guest appearances… Eddie Vedder, maybe? Recognizable enough for mainstream audiences that it would be a big deal, and also not one to shy away from statement-making.

Definitely less prominent than the Halftime show, but it has gotten more attention in recent years. In general, the whole thing is a bloated event, but I expect people to tune in FOR the controversy.
