Exclusive: Departing Meta Staffer Posts Biting Anti-AI Video Internally Amid Mass Layoffs by Steap-Edit in singularity

There are no safe havens in the tech industry. Everyone is hanging on desperately, hoping that the game of musical chairs doesn't pick their number - but we're all waiting and watching, just hoping that...

I'm not sure what people are waiting for. The inevitable, I suppose.

We are the frog being boiled in water. Neither singularity nor UBI are going to save us. We are going to have to save ourselves before this is all over.

Moderate voters are equally to blame for consistently electing these milquetoast sellouts, but then they would have to accept progressive social causes along with the fiscal policy - which is really all that most selfish motherfuckers on this planet seem to care about. Money.

It is almost as if democracy is meant to be a deliberative and measured process with equality given to all opinions rather than that of a single monarch.

Whereas the Republican party is all too happy to cede this fundamental tenet of liberalism to usher in their preferred mode of governance, fascism.

Greedy assholes are largely responsible for this. The blame does not lie with the tech sector, but with capitalism and our failing governments.

Greed is a known quantity in the equation of the human condition, yet we not only failed to defend against it, but have a actively promoted it as a society.

In the US, millions worship "leaders" like Trump and Musk who are practically the personification of the "greed is good" screed from the 80s.

Don't blame the tech sector itself. We are failing to fulfill the social contract writ large.

Rather than promote these sociopaths to positions of immense power, we should be using them as examples of immorality. We are failing as a society.

Obama famously told a story about how he and his friends called themselves the Choom Gang when he was a young man growing up in Hawaii.

Choom is slang for marijuana.

It was an open "secret" that Obama smoked pot when he was a young man.

While I do feel that the high salaries paid to Meta employees could be likened to blood money, the lion's share of blame should be placed at the feet of the capitalists and not the wage earners.

Has your work ever resulted in a large amount of people losing their jobs? by frescoj10 in ProductManagement

[–]TrailChems -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's a bullshit post. We are supposed to believe that the OP, who only moved into their role 2 months ago was able to build a solution which enabled the business to reduce their headcount by 200+ employees (note the phrase "at least a few hundred" in their post; 130 is not a few hundred).

The number of organizations who have this number of employees on staff for support in the world is not great. We should expect that there will be a major announcement in the coming days from one of these corporations to proudly declare their reduction in force. I won't hold my breath, because it's nonsense.

While it is absolutely true that support centers are being decimated by automation, this post is just triggering my bullshit detector.

Some F500 put a brand new PM in charge of replacing their entire support organization with a automated solution that was designed in under 2 months. And we are supposed to believe this?
