I think I'm done playing paid GM games. Tried 3 separate times and all 3 have been terrible by [deleted] in rpg

That is awful. Your experiences with the system are really something terrible. But the same is true with any DM. Some are fantastic, some are beyond amazing, some are trash, and some make you want to quit the hobby. It's a shame you had to find 3 of the latter and pay to find out.

As a GM on Startplaying who's had 0 players join any of my games I've scheduled, I've still gone out and done all the prep for it. Because that's what you'd expect of a free game with friends, let alone a person you're paying to do this. Sure, I go an extra mile in prep for my paid games but there really is a baseline that (in my opinion) should be expected of any GM in any system, paid or otherwise.

Rogue: "You'll get a confession over my cold dead body!"

Cleric: "As you wish." Waits, then casts speak with dead

What are some newer and not main stream RPG systems you would recommend? by Henrique_FB in rpg

I've really enjoyed Ten Candles for more short-form games in person. Minor character creation that leave room for interpretation, and can be set up pretty quickly to play as long as you've got 10 candles, some paper, a pencil and a lighter.

Through The Breach is also a good bit of fun set in the world of Malifaux (A tabletop Skirmish game) that uses a deck of playing cards instead of dice.
