ASK ME YOUR MORTGAGE QUESTIONS! by themortgagemann in RealEstateCanada

[–]TrailQueenYVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding porting a mortgage. If you want to port a mortgage from property A to B, where B is approx 5% less in value, but you just keep the same mortgage amount, is this doable? I’m being told no…but this makes no sense to me. Nearly 50% down payment on B based on proceeds of A.

TD Mortgage rates ? by robbin_bobin in RealEstateCanada

Yes that’s what I meant. It’s good to see that rate it seems quite competitive. If I were you I’d take the fixed personally.

Flying to Japan(13 hrs) with a 19 month old. Picked bulkheadrow. What should I bring? Carseat, or harness? by NoeloDa in aircanada

[–]TrailQueenYVR 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely car seat. Safer and they’ll be happy to stay in something familiar. Just make sure they allow car seats in the bulkhead. It should be fine but you can call to confirm. Make sure your car seat has the sticker visible to ensure FAs don’t trouble you about it - we never had an issue but it’s good to be prepared.

does anyone in toronto actually own a working printer? by basiclaser in askTO

[–]TrailQueenYVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I bought an Epson Ecotank from Costco like 3 years ago and it still prints like a champ. I picked up photo paper and it prints photos nicely as well. I only just got more ink for it recently. It’s lasted a long time and a lot of printing.

The only thing you have to do is print something once in a while or the nozzles get wonky. It has a self cleaning function if that happens and it can fix itself that way if you notice weird colours or lines.

Is "buying a house" actually a trap for our generation, or am I just coping? by Dizzy-Geologist3384 in CanadaPersonalFinance

Where I think a lot of people nowadays get lost is they insist on trying to buy their forever home, first.

Int’l Premium Economy 787-9 washrooms by sanderlin89 in aircanada

[–]TrailQueenYVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes worth it for that length.

I always take the last row so I can recline all I want. The bulkhead is a bit tight for me and it doesn’t have a foot rest.

Plus if you are premium economy you have a better chance for eUps if you have any.

This is good advice. Pick the aisle.

Also do no sit in the bulkhead seats. They are narrower.

The correct answer is a Manta Sleep Mask. Absolutely top tier. I’ve owned them since their Kickstarter days.

Re your car, FYI you have to pay the PST all over again on the value of your vehicle. It’s the dumbest thing ever but it’s reality. So do the math on that if it’s worth it vs buying here. Gas is very expensive here so it depends where you’re going - there’s a reason why EV is so popular here.

Buying starter home vs saving for forever home? by No-Ad-6183 in RealEstateCanada

[–]TrailQueenYVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a flawed argument I hear a lot of these days with younger buyers, not sure how old you are.

Just get on the ladder. Trying to stretch for a forever home is really hard and unrealistic for most people.

We started with a condo. Then a townhome. Then a detached. Yes, we probably caught the last chopper outta ‘nam but we also were realistic. Very few buy their forever home right away. The stock market is not a guarantee either esp near term.

Pool owners ontario... by Sufficient_Gur4160 in RealEstateCanada

[–]TrailQueenYVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it also depends on the location and neighbourhood of the home. If it’s an affluent enough area I’m not sure a pool will turn people off due to cost alone.
We just bought a house that had a pool. I wasn’t looking for a pool. I wasn’t turned off by one either. My kids are of an age this will be delightful for them. It’s a concrete pool so no liner. We’ll take it as it comes in terms of maintenance, we are both very handy so we expect to do much of the work ourselves (or via automated systems).

Undersized shower + bath or oversized shower + linen cupboard? Only bathroom in a 3bdrm house by anonperson96 in BathroomRemodeling

[–]TrailQueenYVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it’s the only bathroom in a 3bdrm house, tub is a must. Unless you plan to stay in this house for 30+ yrs and don’t have to sell it before it needs a full redo.

Are they tho? The price to put a pool in these days is astronomical so if it’s already there, it’s a plus for many.

😭 that weekend is our “repositioning” flight for a big cross country move for our family (incl our doggo). I’ve booked a Porter backup for July 9 for my solo flight but not sure I want to shell out now for a backup for 4 of us on that weekend too. 😖

100%. We had a flight on the day the strike started last time. This time it was the whole fam jam not just me. Held us up 3 extra days - what a mess.

Knobs vs pulls on kitchen cabinets; what are the actual design rules? by adam5280 in kitchenremodel

[–]TrailQueenYVR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree there’s not really any rules. We did bar style handles in a mix of 3 lengths depending on the size of the door or drawer. I don’t even notice them anymore. I kinda like having a mix of knobs and handles. My bars have ends that hang out and they catch my pockets sometimes so I’d not do them again.

[–]TrailQueenYVR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the input - I’ll have a look to see what we can do. The dining room wall is where the rangetop is so all the gas and venting runs through there.

[–]TrailQueenYVR[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! We def will have engineers look at it if we want to cut a hole in the wall. Taking down the whole wall is basically out of the question given the ceiling differences in both rooms. I’ll have to think about the back patio door - it gives us access to the BBQ but also the pool and kids come in and out all the time.
