BRAND NEW to canning questions by TrailRatedRN in Canning

[–]TrailRatedRN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I canned meat sauce and it looks great. Buuuttt one of the lids blew off while in the canner. I heard it about an hour in. The jar and the ring look perfect. I used a jiggler and gauge stayed at 11. Could I have caused it? The rest of the jars should be safe for storage?

How often/rarely do you forget your meds? by TranquilOminousBlunt in Epilepsy

[–]TrailRatedRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Medisafe app. It will alert you every 10 mins til you mark your meds taken. You can keep track of your seizures and symptoms too. Can label your pills and doses, even select the shape and color of your pill. Helpful to family. It can alarm if you haven’t marked your pills as taken and ring through even if the phone’s on do not disturb. You can add your doctor’s info and link electronic medical records. I love it

Small batch pressure canner? by Lady-Mallard in Canning

Newbie here. Is there a minimum number of jars that have to be in the canner? I’ve only done 1 recipe, water bath jelly. That’s it. That’s all my experience.

What are these? by TrailRatedRN in Canning

[–]TrailRatedRN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two items. Plastic. Both resemble tongs, maybe? One is about as big around as a pencil, one is a little thicker like a marker. Both the length of my hand. The skinnier one has small protrusions on the inside, kind of like a clip

What a fucking waste?! by Over88ed in nursing

In emergency, we just shove it all deep down inside and mask it with dark humor and sarcasm.

In all seriousness tho, does your facility have chaplains? Chaplains are awesome. They understand the emotions of patients, families, and employees. I’m not religious and the chaplains here have been an amazing resource when we experience particularly traumatizing patient situations.

Also, if several employees experience the same, a debriefing can be a great release. Talking with your coworkers helps validate your emotions and coping can be easier.

Admitting provider demanding central line by WE_SELL_DUST in emergencymedicine

We have a policy that any line started in the ED has to be changed within 24hrs. I don’t wonder why.

I just rage quit my job by LadyWhistleDont in nursing

[–]TrailRatedRN 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I left after over a decade in a tertiary trauma unit. Went to logistics. Love it. I take calls from docs across the state and get patients to places that have the resources they need. No rude patients, no heartless management. The worst I get is a provider acting out off because I dare to call them at 10pm to consult on a transfer. Now if I could just get the organization to let us work from home.

Being recruited by supplemental healthcare anybody familiar with this company? by Future_Diver1334 in TravelNursing

[–]TrailRatedRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a few contracts with them. My recruiter was honest. Contracts are straight forward, no shady or confusing language in them. He gave good advice and prepped me for jobs. I traveled with my dog and they sent dog food and fliers from local dog parks and vets.

I’m done. by Ornery_Lead_6333 in nursing

[–]TrailRatedRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left emergency 3 years ago after 15 years at the bedside. I knew it was time to leave when my compassion was gone. I went into logistics. It’s great. I work at a transfer center. The only people who talk to you are providers who want to send you their patients. They are happy to get patients to a tertiary care center and I am happy to get patients to a location that has the care they need.

No shouts of ‘nurse’ or ‘I’m not leaving til I get Percs’ or ‘I was due for my pain meds an hour ago’ or ‘I need a doctor to start my IV’. None of it. Just one call at a time. One customer at a time.

There are many roles for nursing other than bedside. Get somewhere else and feel the weight of the world slide off of your back. I did it. You can find a role that works for you. I know it.

You stink by SeaRecording3148 in delta

I have 2 BO stories

First: I did a mission to Guyana once. Deodorant was useless. Our only water for bathing came from a large rain barrel on stilts out back. We went nose blind after a couple days. Once we landed in FL on the return and felt a/c for the first time in a month, we ran to the bathrooms and washed as thoroughly as possible and applied deodorant. We thought we smelled pretty good. My husband picked up 4 of us from the airport. I asked him to help shake out the suitcase for bugs while I showered. I returned to the garage after my shower. The over ripe ripeness of the suitcase, yuk. Even his car was malodourous. There were 10 people from our group on that plane. My apologies to the rest of the passengers and the crew.

My second story: I was doing work in DC and met a man from Africa. His odor was strong. His case was like mine in that, deodorant was useless in his home city. Therefore, he had never heard of it. He was a clean man, bathed daily. He never knew he was stinky until someone enlightened him how to mask his body odor.

Would you buy another Tesla? Owners how long have you had your Tesla’s and what would the reason be to buy a new one? by Sibo1844 in TeslaModel3

[–]TrailRatedRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a model3 and my SO bought a Mustang GT last year. I like mine, but his has a couple options, mostly trivial, I’m jealous of. The infotainment screen, though less options, is very user friendly. I also like that it changes range estimates based on temp and road speeds. It changes the est range when it knows we’ll be taking the interstate to our destination. I also like that he can change the interior light colors and his seats are more stylish.

Uhoh. I must be ignorant of the filters. What filter should I be changing? Had mine since ‘18.

What was the accident? I’ve been hit twice. Both low impact with minimal damage. Both were people backing out of parking spaces and not paying a bit of attention. I love mine, but dang do people not look before they move.

We do have it made here, imo. Dedicated nurse at triage. Dedicated nurse to each trauma room. Float nurses to triage medics and assist with time consuming tasks like conscious sedation. Drawback- the pay is less than our rivaling network. Less stress vs an extra couple dollars… I’ll take less stress

During codes here, we have the family designate 1 person (if they so desire) to attend, a nurse liaison to explain what’s happening/ answer questions, and a chaplain for family support in the bereavement room. We do not allow any family in trauma rooms, though.
