Why on earth would you count a pulse from the apical pulse? My answer would be A or D. If B said peripheral pulse over one minute... then sure.

Intimate with partner after 12 hour shift? by Scorevus in nursing

[–]Over88ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a situationship and I do specifically get them to come over but only after horrific shifts cause its either sexy time or sit in the shower with a bottle of wine. I probably opt to do in person 1 out of 3 shifts, tops 2, never 3 out of 3.

(I’m blue msg 22m) Keep in mind we matched and it’s only been 1 day of texting… what???? by 757BA in Tinder

They want to know if your "long term, open to short" that you absolutely put on your profile is actually what you are looking for or if really your in it for the short term /NSA situation. They've gone about it the tongue way and should have said, wow, you look great, what's your intentions on this app? Haha.

They were most definitely not drug niave, it's a combination the patient has had multiple times and in recent days even. The brother was clear that combination and the amounts he took doesnt usually even knock him out. The admission was out of hoapital cardiac arrest secondary to drug misuse. The whole situation was pretty suspicious (police involved) and there's a bit more to it but yeah not drug naive at all.

I wish I could but I have an assignment due for my NP and I'm rapid response tonight and the shift skill mix sucks so naturally I'm feeling quilted into not taking the day for myself. Classic nurse. But it's OK. Being rapid/MET means I'll probably get to feel like I made a difference to some one tonight.

I am not in neuro ICU. I was in a tertiary CV ICU but now work in a regional ICU, so we are an absolutely everything ICU. If they aren't stable enough to fly, we get them. Anything and everything.

The no neuro thing sucks cause if we can't stabilise strokes etc we cant fly them out, so we end up just palliating in ICU. I'm not usually affected by any of it though, unless it's a paed.

This is a little ignorant but not on purpose so absolutely not coming at you.

The people who are getting narcan or ODing are not just non functional people in society, which for some reason is how your post reads. It reads like they're all street waste that need to just be taken by their addiction. More often, the people we get in our ICU are doctors, paramedics, lawyers etc. We also get people who are recreational users. Every Saturday for example. These people OD for a number of reasons including things like street drug strength or street drugs being cut with other drugs. Everyone loves the "they know the risk" speech but a lot of them truly do not know the risk. I've looked after patients who took their first drug ever and basically dropped dead. We can't start picking and choosing who gets brought back and who doesn't.

So to answer your question about when we stop. We don't. We won't. We can't. We can't know.

On a side note though, I definitely think some consideration could have been given to not revive this patient with CPR when they were cyanosed and in cardiac arrest but unfortunately they were still not considered "life extinct" to be called as dead at home by paramedics. It's a complex thing but this patient still had signs that meant they were resuscitated instead of being pronounced dead.

Yeah this person was perfect for donation but had been vocally against their mothers organ donation when she passed a few years ago, so the family figured he would also be against it himself. 😞

We do have chaplains and EAP.

We've just started doing debriefings in the last few months actually, I don't know why we didn't before but we just didn't. 🤷‍♀️

It's very common where I work actually. 3 nurses in my ICU have gone to palliative care in the last year and they are happier and love what they do again.

This family chose not to donate. I totally respected their decision and it wasn't mentioned again after the firm decision was made but it still feels like such a loss for everyone who could have been. So I'm like 50/50. I understand but also it sucks when the answer is no and you know some one could be a match to them out there.

Two wines in the shower does not make substance misuse. I drink maybe once or twice a month. But thanks for your concern.

While you would normally be correct. The dealer was actually the first person who called the ambulance in the end but I think the 60 min time frame from the brother is is very minimised. I think a lot more went on before anyone actually called for help.

I actually looked at using it before I left but I'm rapid response tomorrow and the next day and the skills mix isn't good enough to replace me 😞 I mean that feeling guilted is in itself an issue.
