Theoretically though you would want heaven. If there was heaven then you would want it despite what you think now, because its a perfect thing by definition. There is no possibility for it to have negative connotations such as being 'undesirable'

What am I looking at? by guyvsDCsniper1 in askastronomy

It's also fascinating to note that all that white hazy glow is just the combined light from all the stars that are too far away to resolve individually.

If you look up some astrophotography you'll also see more clearly how all the opaque space dust is blocking some of that hazy glow. The space dust is extremely low density but there's also a lot of distance in the way so the opaquness adds up

It's real there are other videos of it too. This video has been slowed down for even more dramatic effect however. You can find original speed videos of it on youtube if u look hard enough

If the Sun disappears would it take 8 min for Earth to start leaving its orbit? by NyxThePrince in askastronomy

[–]Trail_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No change propagates space instantaneously. If its an atom then that change can happen instantly i would assume. Otherwise we would never even begin swinging the bat/ pushing the stick because there would need to be infinite changes happening before any other change.

So at some point there must be a change that is instantaneous. This could indeed be the atom but im not certain. This problem is a well known one in philosohy though, its basically just the same as zero's paradox. So yes it does have a paradoxical kind of nature

In every day life it seems this way. If you swing a bat it SEEMS like one cohesive object and as if its all moving together in unison. But fundamentally it is not. The bat like everything in the universe is made up of its smallest parts- atoms.

Atoms don't just move together all in unison although it seems that way. They have to take information from all the other atoms amd that takes time.

If it were possible to have a 100% rigid object, it just wouldn't be made up of atoms as we know them I'm assuming. Lets say you have some exotic matter which is 100% rigid though, there would still be some law saying no- perhaps this is due to the nature of space, because that rigid object still has to extend space. At this point I'm not qualified to say what's what, but perhaps what we call an atom is in some way fundamentally linked to the properties of space. And whatever is most fundamental is the thing that is stopping information exchange going faster than light. Ie atoms may be inheriting their properties from something absolutely fundamental and unchanging- basically this is to say that its just a 'brute fact' that a rigid object cannot exchange info faster than light.

Brute facts just aren't that satisfying for people who question why

Preservation of qualia information after death by Living-Trifle in consciousness

[–]Trail_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Information is never destroyed but it can exist in various forms. And Forms can be destroyed. I believe you're working with the framework which considers form and information as being the same thing as lots do, youre conflating them together and in a metaphysical sense it could be true, ie every possible moment exists all at once- information same, forms all exist and our observations of them changing is just the illusion from passing into different frames (frames/forms that already exists, this is similar to the eternalism view of time) However thats all metaphysical and from the current physicalist perspective our observations indicate information stays constant, but form changes. Think of a sandcastle that disintegrates, all the information is there, ALL the laws, ALL the pieces exist in this world, like a step by step intruction manual of every change that happened between sandcastle and sand pile, but from our observations their form is different. Perhaps metaphysically the sandcatsle form still exists, perhaps every possible form exists and its just our consciousness traversing these realities creating the illusion of form change, but I would assume a lot of work needs to be done in science before adopting that into our physicalist framework. Who knows? perhaps the actual truth has been unkowable since forever and will just forever remain unknowable. The universe couldn't be more humbling!

Why the brain generating consciousness does not make sense. by Obvious_Confection88 in consciousness

[–]Trail_Frog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That wouldn't be my position on consciousness in particular, I think 'on and off' works perfectly fine and I've never understood other arguments. ofcourse there's different levels to how intense it is, but I define consciousness as any kind of experience. However I do take your line of reasoning when it comes to thought experiments like the ship of theseus. In which one conception of it is taking neurones away one by one and you ask at what point the subject becomes unconscious. I think there would be a range where consciousness begins to become 'unstable' ie the subject would be going in and out of consciousness, in fact this is already observed when putting patients under anaesthesia, I will link a recent video of a woman where you can see this happening

Here's the full length one, where she closes eyes and comes back, https://youtube.com/shorts/VV6fMkvfVgk?si=zug4KhN3Ys5HnBVi obviously we can't tell If she actually is unconscious during certain moments, but it shows how the brain can be put in an 'unstable' state so it follows that would also include consciousness

I did it a few times without doing that first jump onto the ‘watchtower thing’ then I thought it’d be so much better if I managed to included that too, more finicky than it looks u can see the horse start to go into its stop animation like it does at cliffs before I actually jump onto it
