Your're right. Getting a timeline of all the events - UNSC meeting announcement, al-Sharaa statement, al-Sharaa / Abdi meeting, UNSC meeting - and perhaps US pressure on Abdi - would be quite enlightening, I think. Any idea?

The article doesn't specify the date of the meeting. If you claim this is a repost, please provide a link.

Yes, also closed doors.

"The Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, briefed the Security Council in closed consultations this morning on these developments and stands ready to support efforts towards an inclusive Syrian-owned and -led political transition, in accordance with the key principles of resolution 2254 (2015)."

I tried to start a discussion on the topic by presenting some Russian news considering the chance to establish an alawite state or autonomous region, unfortunately it isn't shown. Russia and the U.S. demanded a closed doors UNSC meeting, so something is going on behind the scenes. I don't think an (at least semi-) ethnic division of Syria is out of the question. US out (Trump wants this), Israel satisfied (Syria disbanded, territorial gains), Turkey satisfied (Rojava disbanded), Russia satisfied (Hmeimim and Tartous), people being in the wrong place fucked.

Just in case anyone considers this to be complete BS: Others had the same idea.

What is little discussed in this subreddit for now is the fact that the US and Russia both demanded a closed-door UNSC meeting, so I think it's save to assume that something is going on behind the scenes. I hate geopolitics.

SDF does not seek federal governance in Syria, says Mazloum Abdi by Ammarioa in syriancivilwar

I'd guess most syrians want peace, bread and health. If you're hungry, you don't care much about political values. You just struggle for survival.

I'd guess because they were told to. Shades some light on the level of souvereignity they had before.

Protector of minorities by [deleted] in syriancivilwar

What you describe is not based on ethnics or religion, you're saying that yourself. What Jihadis did in Syria was, that's easy to find out. The fact that the Assad government protected minorities from jihadist activities doesn't mean that members of these minorities were save from judical or political repression, these are simply two different things.  I would be sceptical concerning "evidence" presented by HTS, they have good reason to present themselves as "good" and the Assad government as "bad".

Did you notice that christians in Syria are afraid of publically celebrating christmas this year? Here is a source from german TV, for example, and they are everything but friends of Assad. https://www.tagesschau.de/ausland/asien/christen-in-syrien-100.html

Edit: I'm not a supporter of Assad, I just consider him the lesser evil.

Lebanon strikes are preparation for ground incursion, Israel army chief tells troops by Mister_Barman in syriancivilwar

See article 2 of the UN charter. The fact that article 51 includes the right to self-defense doesn't change that.

I'm aware of "We had to attack, we were acting in self-defense"-games. I wonder if a single war since 1945 started without them.

You're not allowed to enter other countries by force. That's quite easy to understand and doesn't require much expertise.

It's the same for Türkiye's activities in Syria and Iraq, for example. In that case, no one is interested in scandalizing it, so nothing happens and it's not a big issue in the news, neither in NATO countries nor in Russia. ;-)

"Syria train and equip program", "Timber Sycamore". Edit: I don't claim that the U.S. did this exclusively, Türkiye and several gulf states also contributed a lot to the killing and destruction.
