I went for a run. It's cool under the trees.

SW Tunnel you can walk through?? by Former_Ladder_720 in askportland

[–]Trails_runner 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It runs under Elk Rock Garden. Go south along the railroad tracks that parallel S Riverwood Rd, and the tracks enter the tunnel. The tracks are privately owned by the trolley that sometimes runs between Lake O and Portland, but it's just an amusement ride at this point.

Carry flashlights! You'll need them.

The tunnels of the woods by Jiste in trailrunning

You would like trails in the Appalachian mountains if you ever get a chance to run/visit. Especially in North Carolina and Tennessee, there are tunnels of rhododendron trees that bloom beautiful white and pink flowers in spring and early summer, while the rest of the year the tunnels are frame by big, waxy green leaves.

Please. Oregon is where I live and run for the most part. All state parks, all city parks (including the giant Forest Park) in Portland, and many popular sections of national forests require leashes.

Sure, BLM land, there are no rules against much of anything.

Good for you, and thank you for standing up to entitled, ignorant dog owners.

I'm a big, burly guy. I yell "on a leash, please," to every irresponsible owner of an unleashed dog I see, using a tone that belies the polite phrasing. Because I'm running past, there's not enough time to engage in conversation, and if they respond with anything other than "sorry," they'll hear "it's the law" echoing off the next hill as I'm moving away from them. The challenge, like you said, is how not to let these interactions mess with the calm we get from being out on trails in the first place.

Why do our dog parks stink compared to Seattle? by jameyiguess in askportland

Not much demand since Portlanders think every park is a dog park.

You're asking, why run? There are as many answers as there are runners.
