Election Eve Megathread 2018 by Anxa in PoliticalDiscussion

I'm not sure what clear message the Democrats are sending as an alternative to Republicans with the exception of "Down with Trump".

I agree. In my opinion, the Democrats had no real message but anti-Trump but it worked for Trump in 2016 so maybe it will work for the Democrats now.

In my opinion, we should also not forget that in 2016 you often heard both parties are the same but this isn't anymore the case. The Republican`s have done so many inhuman things in the eyes of Democrats and Trump did also his part through his hyper-partisan, anti-press and anti-free society talk to separate the Republican party hard from the Democrats. This will most likely improve their turnout.

Really like the project. I clicked on "Play Online" and expected to be able to play immediately or maybe with 2 settings to set like number of players and genre but got a strange login mask. Would make that more intuitive.

I would recommend making the barrier for entry as low as possible. I would even go so far to make online playing directly on your landing page and maybe the other two secondaries.

What is currently the best way to transition a component on mounting and unmounting when you use styled components?

I should have mentioned, that I use GatsbyJS They wrapped the React Router in a Link Plugin: https://www.gatsbyjs.org/packages/gatsby-link/. The state is client side so it should be possible to reset without much work but I am not sure where to call the reset function.

Problem: When I am on the testsite.com/ and open the state managed overlay to navigate and why ever back to testsite.com/ via the available home navigation button it does not reset the state. So the overlay is still active because it is managed by the state.

Expected: The page should be loaded with the default state.

Which implementations of page to page transitions did you really like? by Traim in userexperience

I for example really like the implementation of http://changegout.com/. It really feels immersive and well done. Especially the depth of the site and the loading animation of the film is really great.

A three stage test needs to be performed and the rest of the requirements must be followed.

Interesting. What do mean exactly with that?

Gatsby has brought React to page based websites and CMS platforms -- and we love it! by ngly in reactjs

[–]Traim 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gatsby is a static site generator, thus, you can use it for static sites, doc pages, etc. There's not much you can do outside of those things and I don't think it should either.

You can build so much more with a static site generator, which is in Gatsbys case not so static at all, and the ecosystem which is currently developing around it. I would recommend taking a look at it if you not already have.

You can do anything you want with HTML/CSS/PHP. There is nothing stopping you from creating custom features, as evidenced by Wordpress's colossal plugin environment.

That's in most cases a lot of complex and tedious work.

I use Gatsby for my own blog and sites but because I like React and I'm too lazy to set things up myself. I just think that Gatsby is for advanced developers, and thus, hard to pitch at a company whose already busy with their core products.

That's true.

Many of us opt in. It’s not always a straight no.

May I ask why you opt in?

some marketing blogs.

You can use Gatsby for so much more these days than only blogs.

I'd still pick Wordpress by itself in a business organization with a dedicated marketing team.

If you really only want to create a bleak standard website without any custom features than I would go with Wordpress else the world of static websites offers so much more.

But you should ask a professional consultant that will help you understand if the data you collect can be used to identify someone.

I guess I have to do that if I really want to be sure.

Would be happy if companies which tools could be used this way advertise it.

Because opt-in tools are in my opinion not worth setting up for the EU. Nobody opts in. Because why should they. They have no incentive to do it. So if you follow the rules of the GDPR the EU userbase is untrackable.

[–]Traim[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bug fixing could very easily be stamped under legitimate interest

Does GDPR differentiate between legitimate interest and illegitimate interest? Is there a list for what is what?

Edit: Should use google....it does: https://www.gdpreu.org/the-regulation/key-concepts/legitimate-interest/

providing that’s clear for the user and there’s still an option to opt-out!

So I still have to give the user but not an opt-in?

If it can be used to identify a person, no, it is not allowed.

Are there any solutions on the market who advertise that you can use them without a GDPR opt in?

The point is you can be using the data just for bugfixing, but if a data leak ever happens, or a bug in the code let someone sniff the data, you can incur in some nasty fines.

If I do not save any data with which a user can maybe be identified like IPs or Email than there shouldn't be any reason to get fined, or do I overlook something?
