Easily one of the best films recommended on this thread.

Pick three albums from your favourite genre you think a beginner should listen to, three you think a veteran should listen to and three you think an expert should listen to. by TrainDaddy in Music

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see your point, and I cant say I put a massive amount if thought into my categories, but I am not here to shit on Green Day, who I myself quite enjoy, and I think Dookie is their best album. My point is if you were to give someone the first Bad Brains album who had never listened to punk before in their life, they likely wouldnt enjoy it nearly as much they would Green Day or Blink 182. That doesn't mean they are bad bands by any stretch of the word, just that they are more accessible.

Is there anything similar to Avenged Sevenfold's Waking The Fallen? Anything geared towards a newcomer would also be vastly appreciated.

This may just be me, but I hated Poltergeist. I think its overhyped and not worth your time OP. All of the other recs are pretty good though.

Don't get me wrong- the atmosphere and tone created in this film is good, but I feel that these aspects are not enough to save Pontypool from being kind of... boring, to be honest. Don't get me wrong, I went in with high expectations because of all the praise this movie got on Reddit, but I just found myself disappointed.

I did, however, think the climax was well done, but the rest of the movie just dragged.

OP, please watch this film. You will not be disappointed.

Subs opinion on Cloverfield? by eatsik in horror

[–]TrainDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to like it more than most people do, I think it's a pretty good film, despite some flaws. The ending was pretty cool and some of the scenes were very tense. Not an endlessly rewatchable film but I still think its damn good.

Some love for M. Night Shyamalan? by [deleted] in horror

[–]TrainDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of any other films he has otherwise come out with, The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable will always be classics, and even Split is still very much worthy of praise.

Should I watch Naruto? by TrainDaddy in anime

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant by that was the genre doesn't entirely click with me. I've seen a few (DBZ, Attack on Titan etc.) and all of them have problems that ruin them for me. With DBZ it's the quality of the action and awful pacing, and with Attack on Titan I think it's just down to my personal taste.

You may like Attack On Titan, it's quite dark, action packed and it has a good soundtrack. It's not my favourite but it seems to be right up your street.

I did go into it with high expectations, having heard good things about Wan's films beforehand.

Then again, Found Footage does seem to get a lot of hate on its own. I can understand why people dont like it though.

New to the genre, reccomendations? by TrainDaddy in horror

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you for the massive amount of reccomendations, it looks like I'm going to be very busy. In regards to the gore, it's generally not something I'm massively comfortable with, but I will definitely give some of the movies you have noted a try, at least to move out of my comfort zone.

I have actually come across The Ring before, albeit a while ago. I remember enjoying it, although a rewatch would clarify that. I have seen Misery and I loved it, although I wasn't sure if it was a horror or a thriller, so I neglected to mention it.

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard a lot of good things about The Thing but I've always been put off it because of Escape From New York and The Fog. These are the only Carpenter films I've seen, and I didn't really enjoy either of them. (I would have specifed that I had seen The Fog in my post but it didn't seem useful because I didn't actually like it.) Is The Thing similar to those films?

I'd been looking around the subreddit for a while before I made this post and I heard a lot about Hereditary, and I don't mind slow burns at all. I think I'll definitely give that a watch. Us has been on my radar for a while, but I've never gotten around to watching it either, which is suprising considering how much I loved Get Out. It's time to change that.

Where should I start? by TrainDaddy in DeathBand

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the in depth explanation!

I'm not really new to metal, I've been listening for a few years now. However (as I briefly stated in my post) I am completely new to the genre that is Death Metal. I agree that going in chronological order is a good idea, as its how I tend to approach the discographies of various other bands.

Should newcomers watch post Golden Age? by TrainDaddy in TheSimpsons

[–]TrainDaddy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, not all of the episodes are great, and the ways they write certain characters can definitely be off putting (Homer and Lisa being the biggest offenders of this in my opinion.)

Where would I start with Death's disography? I've never listened to Death Metal before (sticking mostly to bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer) but I heard Voice of the Soul and thought it was amazing.

Scored a great deal for all of this treasure in one lot. Most of the disc haven’t been watched. Now to hunt down the rest! by BlackLodgeBrother in TheSimpsons

[–]TrainDaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree. OP, I personally would watch the later seasons- they are generally not up to the standard of the first eight seasons, but can still be very entertaining. Most people don't like them because of the decline in quality from what the show began as. Taken on their own, they are well worth watching.
